Downing Street is threatening the future of the BBC by insisting it is seriously considering decriminalising non-payment of the licence fee, while boycotting Radio 4s Today programme over the broadcasters supposed anti-Tory bias.
No 10 pulled ministers from Saturdays edition of the Today programme and sources said it intended to withdraw engagement from the show in future.

During the election campaign, Johnson threatened to take the BBCs licence fee away as he called into question its status as a publicly funded broadcaster. The prime minister suggested the licence fee, which is guaranteed to continue until at least 2027, was a general tax that could no longer be justified when other media organisations had found other ways of funding themselves.
Any changes to the BBCs funding model would require parliament to pass fresh legislation. Abolition would be hard, but a bigger risk for the BBC is the negotiations with the government over the cost of the licence fee between 2022 and 2027.

...and Trump should follow that lead and defund NPR.
Don’t frickin’ threaten, do it.
Those ‘tards don’t deserve a guaranteed income.
Let them earn it.
It would be a wake-up call.
The BBC has pushed Socialism on the world stage for at least four generations.
The BBC has been a major force for pushing horrible theories about government .
The problem with the BBC is a little more challenging than defunding NPR.
Its like us defunding CNN/MSNBC, VOA, PBS, Discovery, Science Channel and every terrestrial AM/FM station.
As skewed as they are against the right whats going to pick up the slack for foreign service and the native language radio broadcasts?
Thats one valid thing I think they do as well as the VOA, RFE, RL and maybe even better.
If the BBC were a private company, they would have been sued out of existence, for covering for Jimmy Saville.
We need to stop government funding of the universities.
We need to stop government funding of college loans.
The universities and colleges have become nothing but factories for turning out anti-American activists, at our expense.
Grew up listening to The BBC World Service on Shortwave.
I was saddened to learn on my recent trip to London that they’ve turned Bush House into a college. I would have loved to go on a tour there back in the day.

Make the fookin fee, free.
I find it astonishing that there’s still those that believe, because it is (forced) tax payer funded and not a private corporation, it is an ‘honest’ news organization because they state their goal is to be ‘honest and objective’.
It’s STATE RUN TV. Pure and simple. When the State is full of working class sell-outs and part of a globalist agenda all you’re going to get is pure propaganda.
Yet there’s still people here on FR, from the UK, that believe what the BBC tell them. It’s why they still have such a high opinion of the NHS. At this point you’d think everyone has woken up from the big lie.
BBC revenue collectors go door to door collecting the TV tax and will even get the cops to let them inside to inspect for un-taxed televisions.
The streaming world is cutting revenue and driving the inspectors batty trying to determine if a TV is connected to the airwaves or not.
Id it just me or is that article hard to understand?
The British people despise the BBC collection agents.

Al Beeb is one of the most dishonest hardcore globalist/leftists/gaia worshiping organizations on the planet.
Its a shame because a lot of their programs are truly good - when they’re not pushing their politics - but the news programs are simply awful and you know any documentary about any subject that is remotely political is going to be hopeless.
I used to think that the general public is intelligent enough to see what is propaganda and what is obviously honest & true.
How incredibly naive I was. I grew up in the UK, moved here as a teenager. I thought American’s were nuts - always going on about ‘their rights’. They lacked the ‘common sense’ of the British. Especially when it came to guns.
Now I’m the opposite. I’m a gun owner and understand the ‘why’. Even when I hear somebody from the UK that understands their rights are being eroded, talk about guns, they immediately, still to this day, cower to the ‘but guns are wrong’ mantra....*very* few state they know they need a 2A.
Oh, I also love, ‘the NHS is free healthcare’. smh. The BBC at its finest.
Until the Royals get thrown out of Buckingham and forced to work like everyone else, its all Kabuki Theatre....
What if the television has a penguin on it?
