Ever since Watergate and the fall of Richard Nixon, a not-so-secret appeal of journalism has been the possibility that you, too, could bring down a president. Get a press pass and, presto, youre another Woodward and Bernstein.
Donald Trump just spoiled the fantasy.
If, as expected, the Democrats impeachment dies a quick death in the Senate, its not just Speaker Nancy Pelosi who will have been thwarted. Presidential scalp-hunting by a biased media will be another Washington game disrupted by Trump.
Backed by a press corps eager to get Trump, Pelosi felt confident to authorize the flimsy effort to remove the president from office. She assumed media bullhorns would push the public into her camp and that would win her Republican votes for a bipartisan takedown.
She certainly got the media support, but the public and the GOP arent following. Indeed, the harder that Reps. Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler push and the louder the anti-Trump media scream, the more the public resists impeachment over the Ukraine piffle.
That was true even before last weeks sensational revelations that the FBI was both corrupt and incompetent in the Russia collusion probe. The report and testimony by Michael Horowitz, the inspector general of the Justice Department, further undermined impeachment by revealing the rampant misconduct in the earlier case.
The fact that Trump was unfairly targeted then buttresses his claim that Ukraine is just a second-rate sequel.
Thankfully, the accountability fallout from the Russia misconduct has started, with Attorney General Bill Barr suggesting possible prosecutions of FBI agents and perhaps others.
But what of the media? After all, The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and the broadcast networks were spectacularly wrong in their coverage.

I'm pretty sure there's someone in President Trump's inner circle who lurks here. Yo, Trump inner circle lurker, can you remind him to include the Pipeline and Hillary's Uranium One deal at his next rally? Thank you.
The press needs soul searching... why did they threw away their credibility for cheap thrills? Who's running newsrooms? Teenage boys looking for a fast lay?
Bring back the grown ups.
piffle - What a perfectly wonderful word to describe the nonsense that the dems are perpetrating on our country.

acosta relegated to richly deserved obscurity.
Hillary persists Trump prevails.
The game may have been disrupted for the Washington and mainstream media, but it shall resume again once Donald Trump is no longer there to thwart them.
They have tasted blood, and it may be a generation before this perverse attention to “outing” Republican administrations and legislators ever recedes to the level directed at the alternating Democrat regimes and Democrat legislative majorities.
The appeal of journalism is not to bring down presidents unless they are Republican. DemocRATs are exempt.
The Trump administration rarely uses democrats words and deeds against themselves.
Too funny. Jim Acosta should be banned from entering White House property. Let the Secret Service beat the shiite out of him before throwing him in a SWAT van in chains.
why did they threw away their credibility for cheap thrills? “”
IMO, the type of persons who aim for a ‘Journalism” career today are a completely different reed from those of 50 years ago & older.
Today, cheap hucksters in the press have teamed up with cheap hucksters in the Democrat party and have a common validation game going.
They are bullies of the worst kind...and they won’t last long when the shooting starts.
That was an unholy marriage...
