Officials said Saturday that Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, a vocally anti-impeachment Democrat, will join the Republican Party in the coming days following a Friday meeting with President Trump — a move that would put a political chill on the Democrats’ expected vote to impeach Trump next week.

Two Democratic officials familiar with Van Drew’s discussions in recent days said they believe he has decided to switch parties. The White House meeting was confirmed by a Trump administration official and one of the Democratic officials.

My guess is that other than abortion, he “will grow” into some GOP positions. But abortion is a never-changer for these people.

Right now, however, in the House we need the seats. As you say, this cancels A(monster)mash, whose seat we can actually retake.

We need about 15 more. I think we will get OK5 and the Andy Kim seat in NJ back. Possibly Torres-Small in NM, and I’m pretty confident Burgess Owens will get back UT4. So maybe another 13 flips.

No, not if Trump and the national GOP pressure the locals to leave him alone for this switch.

Right now, this is about votes. We need about 20 seats. Figure UT4 and OK5 and perhaps Peterson’s MN seats are pretty good bets to flip, we are looking at 17 more.

A(monster)mash’s seat should flip, and Torres-Small is in trouble. Andy Kim is highly beatable, and Tom Kean looks strong for the other NJ seat, so perhaps now 13. One by one is how we get the House back.

The future is the future. What matters most is right now and the party switcher is giving a big club to POTUS to beat the Dems with over impeachment. Not even Fake News will be able to ignore this one.

Could this be a trick? Could he actually VOTE for impeachment so that the left and the media could say it was bi-partisan?

He’s already come out against impeachment. He wouldn’t be switching unless he meant it.

Despite the fact that he may be a Bloomie Rep, if he had the guts to sponsor concealed carry in NJ, he’s ok in my book. I live here, and that’s what I want to see here. Goes without sayin’ that NO on sanctuary cities is huge. I disagree with the notion that these issues are un passable in NJ. Some Dem voters can and will get behind that; people of all kinds are disgusted with our state.

Don’t forget the two additional seats the Demonrats stole (or will steal, effective 1/3/2021) via “Judicial Fiat” in NC from the current minority, since they can’t do it legitimately.

Based on Lamb, and the backfire he and others are getting, don’t count on redistricted seats staying Dem for very long.

Lamb is in a seat that is very close, narrow Trump win.

I think these 2 in NC will be insurmountably rat.

Anyway, Van Drew hasn’t announced yet and is acting squirrelly. But his COS (who is staying with him) resigned from the NJ Democratic Committee.

Van Drew better make up his mind. The flirtation with the GOP has already irreparably harmed him with the Dems. It’s clear he’s not exactly comfortable with the GOP in becoming one of its most left-wing members. I believe he will have a difficult time getting the nomination short of the NJ GOP clearing the field for him, and the one guy is refusing to do so. Just because Van Drew has voted right on one key issue (that being not supporting treason), it still doesn’t change the fact that he’s voting wrong probably 80% of the time.

I’m 75 and I have seen far more D to R switches than the reverse. Seldom does one elected as a Republican have anything to gain by switching to the rat party unless he is as crooked as a rattlesnake.
