Supreme Court to Decide Cases on Access to Trump’s Financial Records: A decision, likely next June, could have lasting implications for the presidency

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court agreed Friday to consider President Trump’s legal efforts to block congressional and criminal subpoenas for his financial records, scheduling March arguments for a trio of blockbuster cases that could have lasting implications for the presidency.

The high court is the president’s last hope to stop House investigators and New York state prosecutors from probing his financial dealings dating back nearly a decade, and potentially longer. Lower courts upheld the subpoenas, which were served not on Mr. Trump himself but an accounting firm and two banks that hold the records.

Had the court refused to hear the cases, the accounting firm and two banks would have had to turn over Mr. Trump’s financial records promptly.

“We are pleased that the Supreme Court granted review of the president’s three pending cases,” said Jay Sekulow, an attorney for Mr. Trump. “These cases raise significant constitutional issues. We look forward to presenting our written and oral arguments.”

The investigations—unrelated to the abuse-of-power and obstruction charges against the president that the House Judiciary Committee approved in the impeachment case earlier Friday—ensure Mr. Trump’s legal woes will continue well into 2020 even if he is acquitted in a Senate impeachment trial. A court ruling will likely come by late June, amid the president’s re-election campaign.

Beyond their political implications, the cases could bring the most important rulings on the chief executive’s exemption from legal process since 1997, when the court held that a private lawsuit accusing then-President Bill Clinton of sexual harassment needn’t wait until he left office.

Should the high court uphold the subpoenas, Mr. Trump faces the prospect that records involving his tax strategies and business dealings could be handed over to prosecutors or lawmakers.

A RINO newspaper’s hope, which is pure BS. Whatever the Supremes decide won’t hamper Trump’s re-election.

Difficult to predict. If you step on a banana peel, will you slip and fall?

Okey dokey, lets play that game. RBG and the rest of the crows should now be required to submit theirs. Same with each member of congress and their aides. Same with every director and deputy director of every federal agency. And their spouses and kids.

This is a huge point. The SC knows this so I take it as good sign. The SC loves to punt unless they just can’t.

I think that sometime in May, the Senate Judiciary Committee should issue a subpoena for the tax records of all 9 Supreme Court Justices.

Mr. Trump faces the prospect that records involving his tax strategies and business dealings could be handed over to prosecutors or lawmakers

And an absolute certainty they then will be handed over to the press and published.

I don't think they mean Trump, I think they mean the lasting Office of the President.

It would be a a terrible ruling to let these idiots gain access to any future President's personal "stuff" just because they don't like him.

If the congress critters and the lawyers win this, the entire foundation of the constitution is at risk.

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated”

Amendment IV

If I was Trump, I would also ask that the Supreme Court order that his tax records at the state and federal level be destroyed and that he be exempt from income taxation and audits at both the state and federal level until the year after he leaves office.

Everyone who is in Congress, works for Congress or the Federal Government should disclose their taxes for the last 10 years and every year forward.

Yes, I think that you are right, if the highest position in the country is not protected, then all federal officials are fair game in the eyes of the law (including supreme court justices).

It will come down to a 5-4 decision allowing the release of his tax records. Anything to hurt his reelection.

Saw/heard a great line couple of days ago..

(close no exact quote)

Why are we wasting time demanding financials and harassing a Billionaire who became a politician/Public servant

When the REAL question should be

How does a career public servant/politician become a millionaire while serving the public

I know this is an old post, but apparently there are ominous developments. The Supreme Court is going to allow these hearings to be seen on video. That is nothing if not politicizing the court.
