The spectacle of Aung San Suu Kyi, a once-persecuted Nobel peace laureate now defending her country against allegations of genocide over its treatment of the Rohingya minority, has been one of bewildering irony.
In the years after she was released from house arrest in 2010, princes, presidents and prime ministers welcomed Aung San Suu Kyi with open arms into their own opulent homes.
The feel-good factor of rubbing shoulders with someone who had dedicated much of her adult life to the pursuit of democracy was irresistible.
Then, the grandeur of the Peace Palace in The Hague - a marble-floored monument to global harmony - would have been comfortable surroundings for Myanmar's Nobel Peace Prize winner. A native habitat, even.
But not now. There was no red carpet, welcoming committee or brass band. Instead the light pouring through the stained glass of the Great Hall of Justice illuminated an often haunted-looking figure who had chosen to come and listen to descriptions of some of the most unimaginably gruesome acts. Acts said to have been committed in her country. On her watch.

Aung San Suu Kyi rocks! To Hell with the Hague! To Hell with the U.N.
I could not agree with you more. This is a travesty and an outrage. My prayers are with Aung San Suu Kyi and the Burmese people. My wife, who is from Ireland, has been following her story for many years. What has developed in relation to this story has her fighting mad.
...and now a pawn of China.
What a tough life.
That “Rohingya minority” isn’t the pitiful, put-upon group they’re made out to be. Like aggressive Muslim minorities everywhere, they have a long history of violence and sedition against the more peaceful majority.
Yup. I saw some commercial in the past year or so trying to portray them as these poor, persecuted “innocent souls” in need of $$ donations. It was laughable to the extreme. The commercials seemed to vanish before long.
The Burmese are not kind to Christians too. Guymon Oklahoma is loaded with Christians from Myanmar. They mainly work in the pork plant there.
Why don’t some of the rich Muslim countries take them in, as a humanitarian gesture?
Rohingya have been infiltrated by al Qaeda and probably ISIS too. The Burmese military know what’s going on . Push back is not pretty
I communicated several times with her English husband , Michael Aris, who was an academician Oxford, several times. He passed away and the Myan-Gov would not let her attend to him on his death bed nor attend his funeral . They have/ had two sons.
The Rohingya are Muslim Bengalis. Pakistan didn’t exist before 1947 .
True, but in the convulsions of ‘Partition’ and pre-partition , when the Brits called the shots , and in the several centuries prior , these’Bengali muz where shuffled around . British ‘owned’ Burma then as well , so it was up to them to flush the excess populations anywhere that it was expedient . To them! These ‘Bengalis’ were never invited in to Burmese territory , they were imposed . And since the great and powerful Burmese kings and kingdoms had been reduced by the British superior force of arms , they had no choice . Later on (now!) they had/have a choice . Yet they are condemned for wanting to reclaim their own country, land and culture. Is the U.S. going to be in the same jam a century from now ?
Her situation is presents us with a really good picture as to how the Left operates, if we care to pay attention (rather than simply bitch about RINOs all day, and not vote out of ‘principle’ in November elections).
In her case, are supposed to believe that the Rohingya people were just a peace-loving community minding their own business in Burma, until the big, bad, military there decided to kick them out. And then Suu Kyi just did a full 180 from being a world-renown humanitarian to the second coming of Hitler to defend them. Right.
...and note that the OTHER SIDE of this issue is never presented, nor even permitted to be discussed.
What disgusts me is how the British , and the BBC , despite ASSK’s long association with the U.K. , her life long marriage to one of their most esteemed professors, Michael Aris , and her two half British sons , they now condemn her and instead take the side of these stateless muslim pretenders to Burma. Absolute pathetic hypocrisy, and repugnant betrayal of honor. There would be no Rohingya problem had not the colonial Brits flushed them there. And now they are typical disingenuous muslim claimants to that which was never theirs ,while demanding rights they never earned or deserved.

Visit India and see how over the centuries , waves of moslem hords swept in and destroyed everything that had previously existed prior to their arrival, in terms of religion and culture .Buddhists fared the worse. They were slaughtered mercilessly by the muslims and their edifices were destroyed. Hindus only fared slightly better because there were simply too many to kill off. The jungles of Southeast Asia (Burma,Siam,Laos, and Khmer regions) defined the limit of vicious Islamist expansion . As did the fastnesses of the high Himalayas , for the early Buddhist. Can you blame the Burmese for not wanting a modern days home-invasion of their lands by a new muslim horde? This time invading by ever expanding demographics. SEA muslims breed like rabbits and increase their influence thus. Ask any Nepalese. .
You commas didn’t post very good, but your point is excellent! It’s also something that I wish our side would better understand, particularly the RINOs. They still can’t understand, despite it being IN THEIR FACES, that they are HATED by the media and will always be hated (as are we, of course).
...but they will be ‘liked’ (fake of course) if they do what they’re told to do by the media. The best example that I can think of is McCain. He was LOVED by the media when he attacked Bush Jr. So he runs for president, and is HATED by the same media. Loses, then moves on Amnesty and is LOVED again by the media. During the relatively short time that McCain was hated...I remember him saying he was ‘disappointed’ in the media. He took his STUPIDITY to his grave. Thankfully Linda is doing better with him gone, and hopefully continues to do well.
Google Nazis have scrubbed all the YouTube videos of Muslim fanatics attacking and murdering Burma Buddhists. BBC Nazis are up to their usual propaganda to cover for their beloved Muslim killers. It’s way past time to shut down BBC and charge the propagandists there with crimes against humanity.
Rohingya are so loathsome that even Buddhists hate them.
