Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear signed an executive order Thursday to restore voting rights to nearly 140,000 convicted felons, making good on an inaugural promise he made just days ago after being sworn in.

The order applies to Kentuckians who have committed non-violent offenses and have completed their sentences and does not include sex offenders, rapists or murderers, Beshear, a Democrat, said to a group of voting rights supporters.

"My faith teaches me forgiveness," Beshear said. "We all make mistakes."

Elections have consequences. That is, unless you are conservative.

Wow, that's a lot of convicted felons. Why so many criminals in Kentucky?

"My faith teaches me forgiveness," Beshear said.

Hey Andy, maybe you could preach to the IRS for me?

“My faith teaches me forgiveness,” Beshear said.

And how to get 140,000 sure votes for the next election.

If they have fully served their sentences, there is nothing to restore. Rights are inherent.

“Wow, that’s a lot of convicted felons. Why so many criminals in Kentucky?”

I’d guess it’s a cumulative figure over perhaps half a century (or more) or so - from whenever the law barring felons from voting was passed - would even include felons who are now quite elderly. And - on down, in years.

Reality Check: A great number of those ‘non-violent’ offenders pleaded down from violent charges. They did not just get caught selling a bag of weed.

Rights are inherent.

Well, I don’t see him tripping over himself restoring their second amendment rights.

If the KY Legislature passed a law barring felons from voting, how can Beshear constitutionally end that LAW with a mere executive order? It would seem an immediate court challenge is appropriate, regardless of whether one believes felons who’ve served their sentences should be able to vote...

....and also teaches that that’s 140,000 more democrat voters, apparently.

If these criminals were expected to vote republican, he’d have doubled up on their sentences. Most criminals vote democrat.
