If I’m not mistaken, it’s most like an election for Congress. In the US people run for President directly. But no one runs for UK Prime Minister directly.

The new Parliament will meet and vote for the Prime Minister.

Each party already has named their leaders. Boris is the elected leader of the Conservative Party. Tomorrow HM the Queen will summon Mr. Johnson to the palace where she will invite him to form the next government. There may be some changes in the cabinet. That will be sorted out tomorrow.

The ‘coalition’ or the party/parties who have a clear majority elect from their ranks. Those not on the winning side don’t get to participate in picking the PM.
