Democrats seek leverage for Trump impeachment trial

Senate Democrats are quietly talking about asking Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to hold articles of impeachment in the House until Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) agrees to a fair rules package for a Senate trial.

Democratic senators are concerned by talk among Senate Republicans of holding a speedy trial without witnesses, which would set up a shorter time frame than when the Senate considered President Clinton’s 1999 impeachment.

They want to hear from Trump’s advisers and worry that if they don’t use their leverage now, they’ll have little say over how a Senate trial is run.

Aside from the irony of the House Democrats asking for “fair,” I fail to see what their leverage is.

If they hold the articles of impeachment while negotiating some deal, Trump isn’t impeached, time passes, and this drags into the primary season. What is the source of Nancy’s leverage?

Like the fair rules they had in the House for the impeachment “hearings”? Go pound sand, Nancy. You and your party are headed toward a historic defeat.

“Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) agrees to a fair rules package for a Senate trial.”

Mitch doesn’t set the rules anyhow, the rules have to be agreed on by a majority vote of all members of the Senate.

Nancy can stick her articles of impeachment up her ass and keep them there. She’d do well to worry more about rule .308 than any senate rule. The senate is none of her damn business anyway. I am sick of that crone.

A couple of days ago I wondered if Pelosi wouldn’t quietly herd this entire Impeachment Fisaco into a dark closet and murder it. Seems “the smart move” to me but will AOC and the “Squad” let her?

No way the Dems want testimony in the senate. Actual fact witnesses would be called, this time by Republicans, and cross examined. Trump, having his day in court, would be a cataclysmic event for the Dems and their stooges in the media.

They are the minority. What leverage do they have? (And what leverage do/did the House Republicans have?)

I believe the Senate wants to have this impeachment trial be swift. If Our President gets to call his witnesses the SWAMP (on both sides) will be worried on what else will come out that will put them in jeopardy.

= = = = = = = = = = =

Every day that passes with nothing more than ‘watch out for want we have for your NEXT ‘week-month-year- etc. is a ‘defeat’ as far as I am concerned.

I realize there is no way it will happen but I am still waiting for PDJT to take action on his long-running ‘auto reciprocity’ for licensed concealed carry in ALL states.
(I realize it is a tough one but.......)

I also am glad I haven’t been holding my breath for the ‘list’ of ALL who used the ‘slush fund’ to pay off potential threats over sexual harassment....

As cited earlier, NEITHER side wants these cans of worms opened as either side is more than likely guilty of wrongdoing in one aspect or another.

I do think if AOC etal get ‘emboldened’ enough they may start stirring the pot, if for nothing else, their own gain...AND they probably don’t give a ratz patootie who gets caught up in the sting...

They better have no say about how a senate trial is run.

“SWAMP (on both sides) will be worried on what else will come out that will put them in jeopardy.”

Hopefully the Durham report and fallout from the Horowitz report will accomplish that.

As far as speedy impeachment trial goes it seems like time is on Trump’s side.

I still think the House won’t vote for impeachment.

And besides all that, the Democrats have a crappy case! They will be embarrassed by taking this to the Senate, so I can’t imagine why McConnell would give them any breaks.

Nancy should be called in the Senate after saying she’s been trying to impeach Trump from day one and get her to say why or go to jail for lying

“they’ll have little say over how a Senate trial is run.”

EXACTLY! Do you think “the turtle” is going to let Nancy Pelosi DICTATE to him how to run the Senate trial?

They want to have say in the rules? Like you let the Republicans have ANY say in the House Impeachment scam?

The hubris and hutzpah (chutzpah) of these people is amazing!

I hope you are right. I really can’t say. It seems they are committed now. (They should all be COMMITTED!)

Mitch should say that the Senate is going to basically adopt the House (Schitt Committe) rules.
