During a press conference on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that he “would be totally surprised” if 67 members of the Senate voted to remove President Trump.
McConnell stated, “I said I would be totally surprised if there were 67 senators to remove the president. That remains my view. However, we are obligated under the Constitution to turn to it when it comes over. And we will.”

Senate impeachment trial of the President of the United States, McConnell is in control of the Senate, his every utterance breathlessly awaited, etc. He will reach new heights of gravity. Doesn’t get any better.
Yes, he does say some stupid things. All of these guys tend to say stupid things.
McConnell might be more than “surprised” if he lets the Rats get away with Sedition, he will be considered part of the Conspiracy.

I’m going to go against the grain on this one. What was Mitch SUPOOSED to say? - that he EXPECTS Trump to be removed from office? I know of McConnell’s shortcoming as well as anyone else, but Mitch didn’t start the impeachment process. It’s being kicked into his court. As long as he runs the trial fairly, that’s all POTUS needs from him. He’ll handle the rest. And I should add that Trump WANTS a trial. It’s going to be his vehicle for introducing evidence that will expose the crimes of Schiff and Biden, and who knows who else.

No witnesses from either side is what he said. That means no trial.
And I should add, if Mitch came out ranting about how unfair this whole impeachment is, and what a sham it is, etc. The Dems and the media would just use that to try to dismiss Trump’s acquittal. Mitch is playing it straight so that once Trump is cleared in the Senate, there can be no credible argument made that the process was somehow unfair or rigged.
Nonsense. Any Republican vote to remove will signal the end of the voter’s political career.
Actual removal will signal the end of the Republican Party.
