Its funny to watch this transparently predictable stuff play out in real time.
After Pelosi gives the nod for USMCA ratification in the House, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell declares he will not allow Senate support until he extracts his impeachment indulgency fees.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday the U.S. Senate would not take up the USMCA trade deal next week before congressional recess. The Republican leader said that trade deal likely will come up in the Senate after the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. McConnell said the Senate does hope to tackle the defense and spending bills next week. (link) Too funny . and way too predictable.
Now, if you are wondering what the heck is going on, it might be worthwhile to remember the question CTH presented about this dynamic last week:
(snip) -- Majority Leader McConnell is not about to lose the opportunity to gain his traditional indulgence fees for his legislative work. Passing the USMCA before the Senate trail of President Trump would be giving up leverage. It would be akin to working for free. Both China and Wall Street have been pouring money into K-Street lobbyists. Theres a boatload of extraction available before any Senator should be forced to take a final position. Slow down there cowboy, the check-writers are lined up at the doors.

________
A bat-sh*t rotten city, D.C.
Depends on why McConnell is doing it.
Anyone know?
To show they CANT walk and chew gum. Not on his dime.
I think Sundance is overthinking this. McConnell doesn’t want to hand the democrats a positive issue, during impeachment, in the same fashion that the democrats did not want to hand Trump a positive issue.
Anyone know?
______
I don't really know, but this is from the article:
"First, delaying USMCA benefits China. Beijing has invested heavily in Mitch McConnell and that level of alignment needs to be carefully navigated.
Second, passage of the USMCA hurts the Wall Street multinationals. Those multinational corporations have paid the legislative brokers, K-Street lobbyists, to defend their interests. The multinationals who were ignoring President Trumps multiple warnings, likely need more time to reposition their assets.
Third, the Wall Street hedgefunds have also paid K-Street. If USMCA assists the decoupling from China (it does), those hedgefunds need time to extract their financial position from the Stock Market. **nudge/nudge, wink/wink** Were talking folding money here. Trillions at stake. If youre in the market
position yourself accordingly."

Big boatloads of nothing dont make Mitchs family a dime.

I tend to agree with you. But I have no real clue on these international political dynamics.
But I can tell you how to hit a baseball.
;-)
I saw that.
But of the 535 members of Congress, I trust not one single, sodding one of them.
Which is why it would be good to know why McConnell is doing this.
I don’t know what USMCA is and I don’t know what CTH is. I have no patience for someone who assumes everyone knows their non-common abbreviations.
For clarification, I’m not asking what they mean. Rather I’m simply bitching about the writer.
USMCA job gains will work longer for TRUMP going into his reelection

US, Mexico, Canada agreement.
Conservative Tree House.
The first is a trade bill that has been talked about a good bit, and the writer is talking about his own publication with the second.

The poster in post # 9 wanted to know that info.
And thanks. He seems a little befuddled.
Mitch is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chinese communist govt.
Get used to his treachery so you’ll be ready when the time comes.
He may be doing this to get the fast impeachment trial he favors rather than the slower but more detailed trial Trump favors. The slower the trial, the more we will learn about Congress and the workings of professional politicians.

Too bad his wife isn't from (anywhere nearby)

I think that Mitch is doing this because he recognizes that the only reason DemocRATs passed this bill was to try to deflect negative fallout from their rush to shampeachment. Why should he hand them victory on this one (pro-American) bill, when they are busy trying to overthrow the government? Trump’s trade policies have been laying off big-time for the US; better to let the bill sit for a while and deal with the coup attempt.
btw, Peter Navarro was on Dobbs tonight and noted that USMCA is FIVE TIMES bigger than any possible deal with China.
That is how much economic activity we’re talking here....
True, but that poster specifically asked not to be informed... I just tagged your post in case someone else was wondering.
We’re all befuddled at times.
