his weekend, police officers in Philadelphia hosted a gun turn-in event at two locations in the City of Brotherly love. Citizens were invited to come and turn in any firearms they had, no questions asked and without danger of facing prosecution. Despite setting up shop at multiple locations and publicizing the event on the radio, television and social media, the total number of weapons surrendered was
six. But the events organizers still said they were pleased with the results.
Were any in working order?
I agree. That’s about 6 more than I would have guessed.
Turn in the guns used in crimes, they get melted down, no questions. Ever.
I know some folk will mock the low number — six — but I, personally mourn the six. Every gun deserves to be free!
Just remember, “Ban children. If it saves ONE GUN, it’s worth it!”
I have no doubt they were. 🤣
4 rusted beyond recognizablility, 1 starting pistol and a broken Red Ryder...
I guessed 7, but I forgot they boo Santa Clause in Philadelphia.
The rusted ones can be cleaned up, the starter pistol can be modified to fire live ammo.
I agree about the Red Ryder. You'll shoot your eye out, kid!
Occasionally something interesting shows up, probably as the result of a divorce. A few years ago, a buyback in a wealthy nearby village had a gun buyback and from the news photo I could identify a Luger, a 1911 and a bullpup Mossberg shotgun -- items that I would snap up for $100 myself in a heartbeat. (For $100, how bad could a Luger be? Shot-out Russian imports go for a lot more than that.)
But no sane poor person is going to turn in a Glock that has a black market value that's higher than its original retail price for $100.
I dont recall my Red Rider having a curved butt stock or a rounded lever. I dont doubt, however, it could also put your eye out. Among other things.
I, like the Speaker, have often prayed in these most somber moments for wisdom.
These are not happy times:
Times that try us as a nation, and require us to hold to our most sacred oaths.
To be sure, were I to possess any firearms, I would surrender them, and by extension my personal freedoms, for the safety and security of the American people.
This is, after all, my Sacrifice:
To Protect and Defend.
Alas, unfortunately, said firearms were lost forever in a tragic boating accident with Kenny Bunk off the Mariana Trench some years ago.
I pray - I solemnly pray - that one day they might be recovered and melted down.
[[Guess How Many Guns Philadelphias Gun Turn In Program Produced?]]
This is just a guess, but 5 Billion?
You are a great patriot and deserve a $100.00 for each lost firearm. Drop your claim chit off to the County Clerk. Thank you for getting serviced. :)
And he runs with his finger on the trigger. No Marine is going to run with his finger on the trigger unless he has a target in sight. It figures, he knew better than to pick up a pink stuffed animal.
I wonder how many were stolen - ‘no questins” ahahahaha
Pray for me — I am lost in the woods.
Your story has me in tears. So very sad.
I can’t seem to heal from my troubles. I am now 71 and I am afraid I am loosing my memory. I guess that comes with age. I put all of my firearms into a sealable military box and buried it in a heavily treed forest. I should have drawn a map because I can’t remember where I dug the hole. It’s been many months so I can’t even find a trail.
Fortunately, I own an excavator so I was able to dig down over 15’. I buried them very deep because I didn’t want a child to happen on these very dangerous firearms, after all, this burial wasn’t on my property.
Oh no, I am crying all over again. Heartbroken and lost.
Pray for rain. If theyre in a watertight container, when the water table rises they will pop up. Box and all. Depending on where you live and stuff, you might want to by a boat and dip net. Oh and no charge for the tip. Im from the government and we are here to help.
