North American rivers don't look like this:
First world travelers to third world countries frequently mention the open dumps along road sides once one is outside of a city. There is no concept of responsible refuse disposal other than to dump it where everyone else does--along side the road.
I’ve read that but who knows but I’ve never gotten a serious answer to what really happens to the junk fished out of the ocean. When I see the commercial on TV asking for us to send money to buy a bracelet and that will help cleaning up the ocean. They show the trash on shore but we never hear what happens to it next. I’m curious.

Said somewhat in jest but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m all for recycling anything that can be reused. I understand China does receive a good bit of it and recently asked us to stop sending it because too much trash gets mixed in with it. Whether it’s really thrown into the ocean, I hope not.
Ok maybe but there are probably more jobs available for Basketball Player, NBA or Artist, Rap or Hiphop than there are for marine biologists.

Ok call me “ Greta” which is a ridiculous comparison. Changing our consumer patterns about single use plastic is easy and rational. Why the anger? Stop pointing fingers at China and educate our kids here at home. Buy them a reuseable water bottle for sports and stop buying water in throwaway bottles, at the grocery store say “ paper please”. Volunteer at beach and stream cleanups.

3.65 billion tons of plastic trash per year into the ocean from LA county?
LA County averages an input of 90,000 metric tons a day into the the landfill.
40,000 times more tonnage of plastic into the ocean than total yearly landfill input? I think not.
