We were living in 10 man tents. I had to get up at 4:00 AM to decrypt the Air Tasking Order for the day. Thought I would be nice to my tent mates and not turn on the light so they could sleep in peace.
Well laundry had been hung up after I had hit the rack. I literally closed lined myself in the dark. This caused me to loose my balance causing me to place my hand on a still hot tent heater. Jumping away from the cause of the pain had me run into a small folding table that I tripped over. This broke the table and spilled everything that was on it.
Once everything had settled down, a voice in the dark said, “Way to go stealth.” This was followed by laughter from everyone in the tent and “Stealth” became my call sign.
Can’t help but smile anytime I hear the word “stealth”.
As was mentioned, you do not get to pick your call sign and they are not given because of something brave or cool that you have done.
