[I hope Iran and Saudi Arabia kill as many of each other’s citizens as possible one day.]

Usually, the uncle point comes way before they have wiped each other out. That’s why we’re there - to prevent the formation of a supersized Muslim state with 99% of the combined populations of the entire Muslim region, and 50% of the world’s oil. There’s a lot of media exaggeration about how much punishment these countries can take, but Iran sued for peace during the Iran-Iraq War after just over 1% of its population was killed. Germany did not stop fighting until the Soviets took the Reichstag, at which point it had lost 8% of its pre-war German population.

Muslims don’t do much guerrilla war against Muslim occupiers, because they get gassed or otherwise slaughtered in large numbers. Syria’s gassing of its Sunni Arab Muslim rebels was completely consistent with Saddam’s gassing of Iraq’s Kurdish rebels. Not pretty, but pretty effective at either driving the civilians that feed and shelter the rebels out of the country, or getting them to submit to the ruling authority.
