No, it’s not “bad”. Circumstances changed, in our favor.
Mexican president hails ‘good meeting’ with U.S. attorney general Barr
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexicos President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said he had a good meeting on Thursday with U.S. Attorney General William Barr, as they sought to address the threat of Mexican drug cartels, which the United States wants to label terrorist groups.
Lopez Obrador said on Twitter that Barr understands our constitution obligates us to adhere to the principles of cooperation for development and non-intervention in foreign affairs. In this way, we will always be able to work together.

Lost opportunity, but I believe Trump will have this designation always hanging over the Mexicans if they don’t play ball (control the illegals). ‘Art of the Deal’
Did the President offer to sell California back to Mexico?
... < insert cartoon fail sound here >...
Trump has found himself a big lever.
Bad? Not really. This puts Mexico on notice. When they fail Trump will be left with no choice but to have the US intervene.
Mexico AND the cartels dont want the power of the US military operating in their backyards. At minimum it will likely moderate behavior.
Why?! Tired of talk and back downs.
The designation is on it’s way.
AMLO will have no success with lesser measures. But he will be given a chance.
Cartels will respond with attacks in US, giving Trump more support.
T has always held his cards close to his chest. Why doubt him now?
Weird headline. Stopping just short of doing something then holding it over their heads is hardly backing down. Its smart strategy.
Just militarize our border and search all trucks that cross it.
Enemy combatants, then.
Cartels 2, Trump 0
not bad ... Mexico has done an amazing job of stemming the tide of illegal aliens making it to our border AND accepting residence of “asylum” applicants who DO reach the border while their claims are being adjudicated in the U.S.:
“Mexico comes through for Trump, tackles border crisis when Congress wouldn’t”

Mexico has done a thousand times more to protect the U.S. border than the Democrats in Congress, and it makes total sense for President Trump to defer to the wishes of President Obrador regarding this situation.
Maybe Ann’s right.
PING!
The President has options based on 3 facts:
He can impose the designation as Terrorists.
This means he MUST act on such a designation, and it will be bloody. The media NEVER on his side, and howls from our corrupt southern neighbor will be calling it an invasion nightly on our local news. Every innocent bystander’s blood will be blamed on Trump.
The Mexican Government has now CALLED US OUT on Fast and Furious, which they have every right to do. It was always more about removing our 2nd Amendment than it was about Cartel activity. Maybe they can also help expose what Eric Holder refused to testify about..We all know it was damned dirty shit.
We do have leverage. The Mexican Government is nothing if not Machoistic. They don’t want to admit they’ve failed against the Cartels, nor do they want to admit they ARE the Cartels. They gotta be the tough guy. Trump is basically stepping back and saying they must keep their bullshit out of our bullshit. Keep helping us with the border. Now that the designation is one signature away from reality, they are certainly scared of the repercussions.
It’s a great position to have them in. Up until Trump, you had Mexican Leaders ENDORSING Reconquista. Heard that lately?
U.S. and Mexican officials MUST know the headquarters and drug storage location of each of these cartels.
Presuming they do, a couple of US made, Mexican delivered precision guided thermobaric bombs (i.e., fuel-air explosives) on each one in the middle of the night just might solve the problem!
After all, the USA and Mexico ARE at war with the cartels. Maybe it is time we co-operate to win this one!
NOW!
