Yeah right. The last thing the public schools want are parents getting too involved.

Yes. My thoughts as well. Charter schools are an anathema to the NEA. Proving the Union corruption on so many levels.

She doesn’t want to fix anything she simply wants to enforce an absolute state monopoly on education and force the victims to pay for it
She is a hard core socialist/tyrant and has no business in a free country being in a position of power. The only public job she’s even vaguely qualified for is mopping the floors in government buildings. I have never really wished politicians would drop dead before, but now there isn’t a single Democrat I’d urinate on if they were on fire.

There is no fixing the public school system without dissolving the unions.

Her theory would be great if the public school establishment wanted to be fixed. But the combination of big-education and the teachers union will fight any attempt to fix the schools. And they have the money and power to prevent any positive change.

the best (and probably only) way to fix failing public schools is to offer competition ...

...What the union fears is that the success of charter schools will show that their schools are not doing a good job, and the political pressure that will result from that...

They also make the claim that charter schools "bleed off" the best students, which lowers the performance of the public schools.

Think about that one for a minute. Whether it is better for the individual students at charter schools is not the consideration. They are only concerned that the better students go elsewhere and therefore the average performance at their schools drops.

Well, maybe I could volunteer if I didn’t have to work like a madman to pay the taxes that go to “education”...

A nearby county high school had* a paid fishing coach. A freakin’ fishing coach! That is NOT a particularly wealthy area, either, nor is it heavily dependent on angling.

*”Had”, as he got nailed for messing around with some of the female students. I have no idea if there is a new fishing coach. I’m not a bad fisherman when I actually have any time to pursue it, and I like kids (not per the above creep, tho’!) — maybe I should apply!

That all said, I could agree with Fauxahontas if she urged and assisted parents to investigate and make public where all the “education” $$ are going!! A portion of Warren’s own website would be a good place to (volunteer??!!) such support.

That is a very good point.

Then again, what Warren really means is that parents should go drum up support for more tax money for schools, probably the parents should protest en masse to back striking teachers, etc. That doesn’t take a lot of skill.

You are correct. Poorly performing public schools have a litany of excuses for their failure. They complain that parents aren't involved, but when parents get involved and demand better results the administrators and the teachers unions do everything possible to stop the efforts of the activist parents.

In the case of charter schools, traditional public school administrators and the NEA act against the most involved parents - those that decide to move their children to a school which fits the unique needs of the child.
