Officials are searching for a motive in the Pearl Harbor shooting that left two civilian employees dead and a third injured before the gunman took his own life.

The shooter has only been identified as an active-duty US sailor whose submarine was docked at the shipyard near Honolulu.

Rear Adm. Robert Chadwick, commander of Navy Region Hawaii, said he didn’t know the motive behind the shooting Wednesday.

“We have no indication yet whether they were targeted or if it was a random shooting,” Chadwick said.

Gunfire broke out around 2:30 p.m. at the base, which hosts both the Navy and Air Force, and three days before the 78th anniversary of the 1941 Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that left more than 2,400 US service members dead.

The sailor was assigned to the fast attack submarine USS Columbia, which is at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for maintenance.

Officials are searching for a motive in the Pearl Harbor shooting...

If I were king motives would be inadmissible and trial, sentencing, and execution would be mandatory within 30 days of the perp’s apprehension.

...execution would be mandatory within 30 days of the perp’s apprehension.

I would prefer a trial and conviction before an execution.

Thirty days sort of works for me - except that I do not trust the current "Justice" system can or will correctly identify perpetrators. Quick executions would most likely be reserved for political opponents of the Regime, rather than ordinary criminals.

It does make me cautious about calling quick action with a rope and a tree.

In any case, I was under the impression that the perpetrator in this instance killed himself and saved the rest of us considerable aggravation.

Yes, as I said, trial, sentencing (and assuming a guilty verdict, of course) then execution.

I wonder what took place to put him under anger management. It would also leave the question of arming someone with such issues.
