State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell, a West Philadelphia Democrat who took office after a March special election, will resign after being charged with perjury, theft, tampering with public records, and related crimes Wednesday.
Johnson-Harrell used her nonprofit to enrich herself, ---SNIP--- Johnson-Harrell, 53, was the first Muslim woman to serve in the Pennsylvania state legislature. Reducing gun violence has been her top issue as a lawmaker. Her father, brother, and 18-year-old son were all killed by gun violence.
She was elected to represent the 190th Legislative District in West Philadelphia after Vanessa Lowery Brown was convicted of bribery

If you are born in a place that relies on Machine Politics —like Phil. PA—to keep things running you learn to vote D. and not to upset the system or your trash does not get picked up or the hole in front of your restaurant does not get filed for 3 years. If you are smart you try to be on a first name basis and get along with your precinct committeeman, go use his local election recommendations, and kick a few dollars to the Alderman’s Christmas fund for the poor and hope it gets to them. You know that even if you don’t vote for them the Machine backed candidate will probably win. Vote however you want on state and federal elections.
On the other hand, once you see machine politics in action and move to the suburbs or another state and keep voting D. then you ARE stupid.
