I wonder if there were IRS filings ... via the post office. That would be additional felony charges.

If a white non-cop did that, he’d be in jail.

...to serve the first six months in community confinement, likely at the Salvation Army... U.S. District Judge Manish Shah said Johnson's decision to betray the publics trust was "infuriating." ...he bilked the Social Security Administration out of a total of $363,064 from the time of his mothers death in May 1994 to November 2017 when the scheme was uncovered. In seeking up to two years in prison... a watchdog arm of the Social Security Administration that red-flagged Johnsons mothers account in 2017 because she had not used Medicare, even though at that point she would have been 96...
The sentence is infuriating, and that's because of the judge. Thanks csvset.

Manish Shah - the judge - was recommended by Illinois Republican Senator Mark Kirk.
Shah was confirmed 95-0 by the Senate.
Gosh - I wonder what it means when zero Democrats vote against a nomination?

“The scheme was EVENTUALLY unraveled by a watchdog arm of the Social Security Administration.”
“Eventually”? Yeah; I’d say that 25 years qualifies as “eventually”. They’re right on the ball there at Social Security, aren’t they?

If a subject/citizen steals 360K from the government guess what would happen to them, “The Bed of Justice” is very uneven.

There was a woman on 60 Minutes a few years ago who had done the same thing, collected her dead mother's benefits for about 30 years until caught. Her excuse is she thought she inherited them and they were hers. She played the victim card, the black card, etc. and could not understand why she was going to jail.
Today this can't really happen. As soon as any SS beneficiary dies their name is put on the SS Master Death Index and all benefits are stopped and all credit cards are canceled.

He got two years probation and has to serve 6 months at Salvation Army. Wow all for stealing 360K from SS.

The only surprising thing about this story is that the SSA actually has a functioning watchdog arm.
