Tom Steyer buys website for Trump slogan 'Keep America Great'
Washington Examiner ^ | Dec. 2, 2019 | Zachary Halaschak

Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer purchased the website domain of President Trump’s reelection campaign slogan and is using it to troll him.

Steyer, a billionaire philanthropist, purchased and repurposed the URL bearing Trump’s signature catchphrase for 2020, “ Keep America Great.” When users visit the website, they are directed to a bright yellow page featuring the words “TRUMP IS A FRAUD & A FAILURE” in large letters across the screen.

“Donald Trump failed as a businessman,” smaller text reads. “He borrowed billions, and left a trail of bankruptcy and broken promises. He hasn’t changed. Tom Steyer is running for president because unlike other candidates, he can go toe-to-toe with Donald Trump on the economy and expose him for what he is – a fraud and a failure.”

The website, which says it is paid for by Steyer’s campaign at the bottom, also allows visitors to purchase a bumper sticker that declares Trump a “fraud and a failure” for $1.

“Trump’s campaign prides itself on hoarding websites of political opponents, but they forgot to pick up the URL for their signature re-election slogan, ‘Keep America Great,’” the Steyer campaign said in a Monday email.

Trump’s reelection campaign has used the same tactic as Steyer. His campaign purchased the domain name TodosConBiden.com. Joe Biden’s campaign used the phrase, which means “All for Biden” in Spanish, for its outreach to Latino voters. The website now redirects to a page that reads, “Oops, Joe forgot about Latinos. Joe is all talk.” The page also has a link to a “Latinos for Trump” website.

Back just before the dot com bust I took a very temporary 1099 job at dotcom startup. Part of my responsibilities was to identify and purchase all available URL’s that we needed, including foreign as well as a range of “misspellings”. This sort of thing is really a vary basic part of setting up a business.

I am dumbfounded that they had not done this. It’s why I’m not taking this story at face value.

This is stupid and embarrassing -- Trump has been running a brilliant campaign and has excellent media people. How could they miss this?

And to think we were laughing a few weeks ago at Biden's failure to buy an obvious URL for his campaign:

Trump campaign trolls Biden after buying URL named for his Latino campaign

Biden announced the slogan “Todos Con Biden” to drum up the support of Latino voters. But the Biden campaign committed a cardinal sin in public relations: they failed to reserve the domain name before they announced the slogan. They did not purchase www.todosconbiden.com or even reserve the @TodosConBiden Twitter handle.

We were laughing here on FR at the stupidity of the Biden team's failure. Now it isn't so funny.

New Hampshire is a swing state *and* the site of the first primary. Southern New Hampshire is the most heavily populated part of the state and is,given it's location, basically a suburb of Boston. They watch Boston TV stations and read Boston papers.

As a result I get a steady stream of Tom Steyer ads on my local TV stations.

Looking at him you just *know* that he's diddled an underage boy or two (or one hundred). Someday soon I hope the Daily Mail and/or the NY Post breaks the story of the number of "non disclosure" agreements his lawyers have drawn up in recent years.

Obviously the decision was made to stay with MAGA, and let Steyer amuse himself. Brad Parscale is lightyears smarter than to let something like this happen through negligence.

To the URL acquisition manager...

YOU'RE FIRED!

Won't matter a wit though.

Dot org? Dot com? Dot info? Dot net? Dot edu? Et cetera, et cetera.

Looks like he only bought dot com. Dot org and dot edu comes up as not reachable. Dot net looks like it is owned by someone else unrelated to either the Trump campaign or Steyer.

DomainTools charges to see domain history. But the WaybackMachine shows earlier versions of a URL.

www.keepamericagreat.com was parked at GoDaddy on March 27, 2004. Yes, 2004!

I think so, but it doesn’t matter, it’s still MAGA. Even he can’t control it.
