The Carters spent just four years in the White House during troubled times and almost four decades out of it redefining what a former president and first lady can accomplish.
Jimmy Carter was president from 1977 to 1981 and he won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian work. They have broken every record: Jimmy Carter, 95, is the oldest living American president and he and Rosalynn have the longest presidential marriage in history. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on July 7, 2019. They have been married longer than Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have been alive. (George W. Bush was born the day before they got married.)
Up until 2014 Rosalynn Carter went to Africa with her husband a couple of times each year. Rosalynn Carter got emotional when she talked with me about visiting a village where guinea worm, a debilitating disease that in 1986 afflicted an estimated 3.5 million people a year in Asia and Africa, had been eradicated. There were only 28 cases in 2018 because of the work of the Carter Center.

Carter is in the Top 3 for Worst President of All-Time. The other contenders are obozo and James J Buchanan. In addition to that he is an anti-Semite (yes he hates Israel) and even ... anti-American. When he shuffles off his mortal coil be ready for a lot of praise concerning his gentility and bipartisanship blah blah blah versus the considered-by-the-media ogre and lout currently in The White House. But it will all be bullshit!
He still sucked as POTUS, nothing can change that.

Between about 1979 and early/mid 2009 the Peanut Farmer was the worst President of my lifetime.Since mid to late 2009 he’s been the second worst.He worked on a nuclear submarine yet couldn’t even pronounce the word “nuke” “lee” “er”.
By me Carter was the WORST.
Man that guy messed up my life.
First, let us discuss those long gas lines. I had a baby and a full time job. In order to work I needed gasoline. And then I had to wait in line sometimes for hours.
Second, INTEREST RATES. I had a house when Carter was President but thought I’d never be able to get a new one. Mortgage rates were upwards of 18%.
Third, the great Iran hostage crisis. Not only did a bunch of camel jockeys take Americans hostage, when the great military commander James Carter tried to rescue them the plane crashed and....awful....just awful.
Oh, and do we remember Carter bragging how he turned on the fire in the home fireplace but turned on the air conditioner at the same time lest it get too hot? A typical elite silly action.
I despised this man and one of my happiest days was his losing the first election after America stupidly elected him once.
I respect Jimmy Carter, but he was a terrible president.

It’s kind of a side point, but I’m going to defend Buchanan here. Yes, Buchanan blundered the country into a bloody civil war. But he had nothing to go on. No conception as to what might happen.
I’d replace Buchanan on that list with George W. Bush. Bush had all the lessons of Vietnam in front of him. Yet he repeated many of LBJ’s foolish mistakes. And we will pay for those mistakes for decades to come.
It’s also worth noting that two great enemies of the Islamists were the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein. Carter got rid of the first one. W got rid of the second one. The Islamists should be grateful to both of those guys.
