William D. Ruckelshaus, who resigned as deputy attorney general rather than carry out President Richard M. Nixons illegal order to fire the independent special Watergate prosecutor in the constitutional crisis of 1973 known as the Saturday Night Massacre, died on Wednesday at his home in Seattle. He was 87.

Nixon was well within his rights to fire EVERY SINGLE ONE,... like Obama did, and like Clinton did.
The only difference is THE MEDIA.
The media ignored it for Obama and Clinton, and screwed Nixon over so bad he eventually resigned. Like they are trying to do with Trump.
You could say there were some actual crimes committed by the committee to re-elect the president (which the media eagerly renamed CREEP) when the Watergate hotel was broken into, but I doubt Nixon called anyone and said “Hey break into the Watergate”
But the break-in was the 1970’s equivalent of spying on the other campaign LIKE OBAMA DID.
PS. It was THE MEDIA who dubbed it “The Saturday Night Massacre”
They complained when Bush’s attorney general fired them all too. (only not as successfully)
“William D. Ruckelshaus, who resigned as deputy attorney general rather than carry out President Richard M. Nixons illegal order to fire the independent special Watergate prosecutor....”
Illegal? Perhaps unethical, likely suspect, but “illegal”? It’s my understanding that the chief law enforcement officer(President) can legally fire or order anyone fired within his purview.
Why bother printing anything that appears in that fish wrap. They are the enemy of the constitution and America
It’s an obituary.
Why are you posting articles from the NYT here?
John Dean was investigating a call girl ring for personal reasons.
There is a difference between a president firing all the US Attorneys at the change of administrations and firing a special prosecutor who is investigating that president. But it was Nixons right to do it, though hard to survive politically. And yes, the term Massacre is over the top with one guy getting fired and two resigning.
Is there some new rule? NYT articles get posted here all the time.
Another just got posted several moments ago...

I don’t understand why NYT articles are posted here. It’s supposed to be a conservative site.
I sure hope he’s PROUD of the Northern Spotted Owl.
“I dont understand why NYT articles are posted here. Its supposed to be a conservative site.”
We post from EVERY SITE, whether we like the site or not. Maybe Glen Beck or someone like him insulates his people from the REAL WORLD.
But we take it HEAD ON, here.
They’ve been posted here as long as I remember. If you eliminate the MSM on here you wouldn’t have much. AP, Reuters etc.
I still don’t understand. There is plenty to discuss here besides NYT articles.
That really brings out how long ago it all was. I remember driving across the desert from California to Missouri with my mom listening to the Watergate hearings on the radio. She was mad at Nixon, but she always loved Kissinger.
It is a good idea to see the swill that the EneMedia is spewing. Thus, I don't mind the NYT articles being posted -- and I don't have to soil my eyes reading it, since I can just zip to the comments (and let others - who actually read the NYT article - take the necessary hazmat washing, afterwards).
Their Arts articles and Obits are generally the best stuff in the paper.
