Nixon was well within his rights to fire EVERY SINGLE ONE,... like Obama did, and like Clinton did.
The only difference is THE MEDIA.
The media ignored it for Obama and Clinton, and screwed Nixon over so bad he eventually resigned. Like they are trying to do with Trump.
You could say there were some actual crimes committed by the committee to re-elect the president (which the media eagerly renamed CREEP) when the Watergate hotel was broken into, but I doubt Nixon called anyone and said “Hey break into the Watergate”
But the break-in was the 1970’s equivalent of spying on the other campaign LIKE OBAMA DID.
“William D. Ruckelshaus, who resigned as deputy attorney general rather than carry out President Richard M. Nixons illegal order to fire the independent special Watergate prosecutor....”
Illegal? Perhaps unethical, likely suspect, but “illegal”? It’s my understanding that the chief law enforcement officer(President) can legally fire or order anyone fired within his purview.
Why bother printing anything that appears in that fish wrap. They are the enemy of the constitution and America
Why are you posting articles from the NYT here?
I sure hope he’s PROUD of the Northern Spotted Owl.
That really brings out how long ago it all was. I remember driving across the desert from California to Missouri with my mom listening to the Watergate hearings on the radio. She was mad at Nixon, but she always loved Kissinger.
Not an illegal order.
As I recall, AG Ruckleshaus refused to fire Special Posecutor Archibald Cox and resigned. Assistant AG Robert Bork then fired Cox. Nothing illegal about it except for the NYTs unsupported value judgement. So much for being the newspaper of record.
There would never have been a Saturday Night Massacre had Nixon not forced Attorney General Richard Kleindienst to resign. Kleindienst, a Goldwater man, would never in a million years have hired Archibald Cox, a Kennedy man. Nixon’s decision to force out Kleindienst, who had nothing to do with Watergate, sealed his doom.
Nixon was not a bad president, he wasn’t a Reagan or a Trump, but he should’ve fought the media...but the most “Trusted” Man in News, wanted him gone...I wonder how Nixon would have done with social media...Reagan would have fun like President Trump is having!!
It took him long enough!
bump
Watergate was merely another FBI take-down of a President.
“Deep Throat” Mark Felt was Associate Director of the FBI at the time he was leaking to Washington Post.
He was a Malthusian monster who arbitrarily banned DDT which led to the death of millions from the all but eradicated malaria. He & some around him were such fanatics that, like Scrooge, knew damn well that people would die & thought it was ultimately a good thing.
