Pro-democracy protesters take part in a Thanksgiving Day rally at Edinburgh Place on November 28, 2019 in Hong Kong, China. Protesters gathered to say thank you to the United States after US President Donald Trump signed legislation supporting the Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters, with new legislation requiring annual reviews of …

Thousands of demonstrators in Hong Kong staged a “Thanksgiving” rally on Thursday evening in response to President Donald Trump signing two bills in support of the city’s pro-democracy movement.

Demonstrators took to the streets shortly after the president signed the legislation. Some draped themselves in U.S. flags and expressed gratitude for the administration’s support.

“The rationale for us having this rally is to show our gratitude and thank the U.S Congress and also President Trump for passing the bill,” student Sunny Cheung, 23, told Reuters. “We are really grateful about that and we really appreciate the effort made by Americans who support Hong Kong, who stand with Hong Kong, who do not choose to side with Beijing.”

Utterly amazing that the House took time to pass a bill to do some good in the world. Normally, they’d be busy with impeachment or something else equally horrendous. But thinking they could embarrass Trump in the middle of negotiations with the PRC, they passed a bill they were sure he’d veto. And he signed it. D’oh!

“Because of the trade talks? Maybe you’d not heard of those.”

Still making no sense.

President Reagan took down the Soviet Union. Could President Trump take down Communist China?

NfL doesn’t understand, NBA doesn’t understand, SJW and millenials opposed to Thanksgiving don’t understand.

Hong Kongers do understand. This Thanksgiving we give thanks to You, O God, for President Donald J. Trump. May we all experience a rebirth of freedom in our heart.

It seems to me that there are many truly admirable people living in Hong Kong. I'd bet that they would make fine US citizens. There's no future for anyone of that caliber in a place like Hong Kong.

The only way the Butchers of Beijing can ever be driven from power is if the prosperous, civilized nations of the world...the US,the EU,Japan and South Korea being just a few...were to *completely* close their ports to Chinese made goods.

[A proposed law passed by Congress must be presented to the president, who then has 10 days to approve or disapprove it. The president signs bills he supports, making them law. He vetoes a bill by returning it to the house in which it began, usually with a written message. Normally, bills he neither signs nor vetoes within 10 days become law without his signature.]

This bill would have become law even without Trump’s signature. But the Donald signed it anyway, to send a message. And that message is not not a friendly one, to the Communist Party.

Xi Jinping is pissed because this is a big “!@#$ you” to him. Trump is playing the same game with Xi as he did with Putin - saying nice things about in public, while whaling on him with everything he does.

The US is not the country raising large sums of money on the Shanghai stock exchange. The market cap of Chinese companies listed on the US stock exchange is $1.2T. The market cap in Hong Kong is probably around $3T. A hefty chunk of that is US mutual, pension and endowment fund money. The day we ban investments in Chinese companies, equity funding for China’s private sector grinds to a halt.

We have the Chinese by the short hairs, not just trade- but finance-wise. If we yank, they will scream like a little girl.

We are so blessed to have Donald Trump as our President! Makes Thanksgiving all the more meaningful when you’re not so worried about the future as we were prior to January 20, 2017!
