A (Obama appointee) federal judge in Oregon has blocked a Trump rule that requires new immigrants to prove that they will have health insurance or can afford it before obtaining their visa.
U.S. Dist. Court 'Judge Michael Simon' granted a nationwide preliminary injunction that would stop the State Depart. from enforcing the order. The order, signed in October, would require foreign nationals to show “they will be covered by health insurance within 30 days of entering the country or have the financial resources to pay for medical costs,” before they qualify for an immigrant visa.
The rule, which does not affect refugees, asylum seekers, or those who are on non-immigrant visas, was made to “protect the availability of healthcare benefits for American citizens,” the White House said at the time. The administration noted that “admitting large numbers of immigrants who cannot pay for their healthcare puts a burden on our taxpayers and healthcare system.”

That’s a little like the Mayor of San Francisco blocking national policy. A US District judge should have no authority at all outside of his district. A ruling like this should be laughed at.
The fact Obama, and Clinton appointed Judges keep challenging Trump’s orders on a regular basis leads one to suspect there is skullduggery afoot. Pardon the tinfoil, but it’s been passed to me by Captain Obvious.

No, it’s because for reasons I really can’t understand Trump decided at the beginning of his term to always acquiesce to any Judicial tyrant on matters of immigration policy. There’s no need to impeach these a-holes, just ignore their illegitimate rulings. Obama ignored several rulings that he didn’t agree with.
The Judicial Branch is not the supreme branch of our government. One Obama appointed Federal judge has no more authority to dictate immigration policy to the excecutive branch than my town’s Mayor has the authority to give the Pentagon orders.
I can only hope that in a 2nd term Trump will fully exercise the authority the Constitution grants the Executive branch.

I don’t think the Founding Fathers ever intended for these black-robed tyrants to have this much power. If they did, we would be voting for “judges” to run the country and not the President of the United States.

These orders should ALL stand until decided by SC.

It's more of Obama's handiwork.
Yet another nationwide ruling form some district judge. I read recently that there were something like 5 of these rulings in the Obama years. And we’ve had around 200 with Trump. It’s an abuse and needs to be stopped.
The Congress won’t because of Pelosi. That leaves Trump. They need to press on with the policy, except in that one judicial district.
At a minimum.
Obama was able to ignore the rulings, because he had underlings who would obey him over some low-level judge.
Trump has Obama holdovers and Deep Staters who will use the judge's ruling as an excuse to not obey Trump's orders.
New immigrants should be required to show in various ways that they will make a positive contribution to society and will not be a burden on taxpayers.
