And yet the Left called the House Committee On Un-American Activities a “witchhunt” and when Joe McCarthy joined the “witchhunt” already in progress (The Crucible was written before Joe McCarthy was involved) they went into overdrive and called such hearings “McCarthyism”.

McCarthy was being fed information by J. Edgar Hoover who pulled the rug out from under him. McCarthy was destroyed when he said the military had been infiltrated. The Venona project was torpedoed because a Soviet spy in the military was looking over the shoulder of one of the codebreakers.
