With so many WiFi hotspots including home networks that bypasses 4G, why is 5G so important?
The physics of 5G will limit its market penetration.
Cell tower on every corner. Doesn’t work well inside buildings without repeaters. Weakened by heavy rain and fog.
This is industry push rather than consumer demand. Most people are well satisfied with 4G bandwidth.
I’ve said this before.
5G is for big brother.
More antennas will allow tracking the location of cellphones more closely.
More antennas will increase the number of available communication channels which will allow more little solar powered snooper microphones and cameras to be placed everywhere.
5G will also permit higher transfer rates but aren’t we little guys happy with the performance of our cellphones?
Nobody I know (albeit a small sample size) wants or even cares about 5G.
That happens now. And, we should set conditions.
Where’s the bandwidth to feed 5G coming from?
re: “How America Can Still Win the Race to 5G Wireless Technology”
Pushing string.
No, I mean, trying literally to “push a string up a hill.” Everyone knows you have to drag, or pull, it up ...
re: “The technology is necessary for the next generation of large-scale breakthroughs”
Nope. Not buying it; this is “marketing hype.”
The Federal Government does not own any spectrum in the UHF band proposed for auction. The writer is conflating UHF with C-Band. The Feds do have exclusive use in parts of the C-band, but those frequencies are above 3 GHz.
“win the race”
Sometimes it is better to sit still and think.
I’d like to have consumer-owned and operated (automatically) data networks (based on routers).
ISP bills average about $64/month I’ve read.
