Democrats’ Plan Will Suppress Third Parties in New York

ALBANY, N.Y. — For years, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and some Democratic leaders have had an antagonistic relationship with the left-leaning Working Families Party, a labor-backed group whose increasing influence and independence have only widened the divide.

So when Mr. Cuomo and state leaders decided this year to expand a public campaign financing commission’s authority — giving it a mandate to rewrite election laws affecting smaller political parties — the independent party’s leaders feared the worst.

On Monday, their concerns were realized: The commission approved a slew of changes that will make it harder for political third parties to survive in New York.

By a 6-3 vote, the commission voted that in order for political parties to maintain a guaranteed line on the state ballot, they must draw either 2 percent — or 130,000 votes — of the general election vote for governor or president every two years.

In 2018, the Conservative Party was the only third party to receive more than 130,000 votes in the New York governor’s race; the Working Families Party, with Mr. Cuomo at the top of their ticket, received some 114,000.

“In California the open primary actually improves the political power of Republicans in majority Democrat districts.”

Yes Republican political power is certainly enhanced when there are no Republicans on the ballot in the general election. They get to vote for the lesser of two evils—they don’t actually get to vote for what they want.

The Democrats still get the seat and control of the legislature....which is what they are after. Control means they can control what laws are passed.

Isn’t CUOMO doing something similar what ADOLPH HITLER DID.

On July 14th 1933 the NAZI (read democrats) party declared all other political parties illegal.

"The old FDR Democrats are socialists. "

I don't believe there are any FDR Democrats let in this country. My Dad was born in 1904, and was an FDR Democrat. FDR may have been a socialist, but the younger Democrats, and lefties today, who never lived through the Cold War, and have no idea of the horrors Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, and Fidel Castro unleashed, look at Communism/Socialism as something new and desirable. These younger generations are the experimenters. They've experimented with drugs, sex, gender affiliation, etc. To them it's attractive, so why not try Communism to see what it's all about.

RANK VOTING will be signed into law in NY and other states. A legitimized voter fraud scheme that is protected by law, The rat shell game that ultimately ends in a rat victory without a majority

'Political party is a private organization.'

Great point. It annoys me in many ways that is forgotten. The gop now has gop.gov as a website. Disgusting. If they want to campaign, do it on their own dime. Not via a .gov website. Naturally, that applies to all parties.
