The phrase “digging up dirt” is ubiquitous in the media on this story. Why isn’t it described as “fact finding”? Is it a phrase that has been poll-tested by the Democrats and fed to the media?

I can only take a guess - it is another of the many euphemisms the media uses to put their spin on the story. They can’t help themselves, they keep injecting their own brain-washing words into every story like “debunked allegations”, “without evidence”, etc. It is probably a “bombshell” of a taking point given to them by their “anonymous well placed sources” and may in fact be poll-tested, or at least structured by political marketing people.
