Outbreak of E. coli Infections Linked to Romaine Lettuce
CDC ^ | Nov. 21, 2019 | CDC

Posted on 11/23/2019 6:27:56 AM PST by bgill

Based on new information, CDC is advising that consumers not eat and retailers not sell any romaine lettuce harvested from the Salinas, California growing region.

Most romaine lettuce products are labeled with a harvest location showing where they were grown. This advice includes all types of romaine lettuce harvested from Salinas, California such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and packages of precut lettuce and salad mixes which contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad.

Those damn Romans. First they give us a goofy numeral system and now they ruin our lettuce.

IMO, either the pumps used for watering are tapped into a polluted underground stream/well or there are too many workers relieving themselves in the lettuce field.

Well, we’re always using this type of lettuce to make “Caesar” salad, no? Maybe they’re insulted by this.

Why is it usually romaine?

In my area, red leaf lettuce has been absent since spring. It is available about 50 miles away in a larger city. I have searched for a reason and could only find that some of the crop had been wind-damaged in some areas during late spring/early summer. However, the red leaf available elsewhere has looked fine and been the same price as green leaf.

Anyone know the answers?

I buy iceberg lettuce by the head and always discard the first three or four layers of leaves, using only the actual heart of the lettuce. Romaine is problematic because it’s harder to do this.

At my Domino’s last night, we had several cases of salads we couldn’t sell because of this.

I refuse to play this game. The last time we had an outbreak, I washed the romaine lettuce repeatedly and then...I ate it! I can’t afford to throw away lettuce every time this happens just because a few dozen ppl got sick when they’re not even sure that lettuce was the culprit. If I get sick, so be it. I’m 66 and pretty healthy so I’m willing to take a chance.

They just ordered a Company to destroy 500,000 pounds of Pork.

A Whistleblower reported that the Product had not been Inspected by the USDA at the Processing Plant. Saw an Article yesterday and in the Comments some Liberals were blaming POTUS Trump because he has reduced Regulations.

Of course they had no idea what Regulations he supposedly eliminated regarding Food Inspection, but facts never get in their way.

Plus it’s green and biodegradable. We should all be using Romaine as our toilet paper and save the trees.
