I just read about a company that is making condoms out of paper to save on plastic waste.
Now you have to ask the girls if they want paper or plastic.
Wouldn't be a bit more palatable to the masses to put a 10¢ 'charge' on plastic bags and let economics work??
Baltimore is Zimbabwe on the Chesapeake. Africanization has destroyed the city beyond recovery
$23.11/2000=$0.011555. Just over 1 cent apiece.
Doubt they will be banning plastic bags any time soon here in Aiken County, South Carolina.
What would I use for my small waste cans? Or coffee grounds, watermelon rinds, banana peels? Or my 2 yr old granddaughter’s Poop diapers? It’s called Recycling for a new purpose, so your house doesn’t stink.
There is a simple and better way to deal with the need for plastic bags to be recycled instead of adding to the land fill.
They only need to require that retail establishments who offer plastic bags to customers must have bins on their premises where customers can return the bags for recycling, and that the retail establishment must have contracts with outfits that will pick up the used bags for recylcing.
The extent to which the cost of that will increase the overhead for the retailer will be considerably less than 5 cents a bag, and if it must be passed on in the retailers prices will be barely noticable to customers on a per-sale basis.
But asking the position of candidates on this can be revealing. Headlines:
San Francisco was the first city in the nation to ban plastic bags in 2007
But,
The San Francisco Department of Public Health oversaw the distribution of an estimated 4.5 million syringes last year
And,
San Francisco Votes to Give (Cool) Middle-Schoolers Condoms
You know you’re Old when you can remember when Paper Bags were being blamed for deforestation and the Wackos wanted them eliminated.
Now it is CVS coupons printed out at the checkout stand.
If I don't get a 3 foot 'receipt' with SAVINGS!!! on it I feel cheated!
