WASHINGTON A group of Republican senators and senior White House officials met privately Thursday to map out a strategy for a potential impeachment trial of President Trump, including proceedings in the Senate that could be limited to about two weeks, according to multiple officials familiar with the talks.
Senators Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, John Neely Kennedy, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, and Tom Cotton met with White House counsel Pat Cipollone, acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, senior adviser Jared Kushner, and counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway, according to the officials, some of whom requested anonymity to discuss a private meeting.
The meeting was organized by White House legislative affairs director Eric Ueland, who was also in attendance along with advisers Pam Bondi and Tony Sayegh, recently hired to guide the White Houses impeachment messaging and strategy.
No final decisions were made on strategy for a trial that, if it happens, would come in January at the earliest. But one prominent scenario discussed, according to officials, was a trial that would last for roughly two weeks, which several Senate Republicans view as the ideal option because they believe it would be long enough to have credence without dragging on too long.
The scenario assumes the proceedings would end in acquittal in the GOP-controlled Senate.
I dont want them to believe theres an ability to dismiss the case before its heard, Graham said Thursday following the meeting with Cipollone. I think most everybody agreed, theres not 51 votes to dismiss it before the managers get to call the case.
But even a two-week trial could run counter to what Trump has expressed privately. The president is miserable about the ongoing impeachment inquiry and has pushed to dismiss the proceedings right away, according to people familiar with Trumps sentiments.

If they are forced to adhere to Federal rules of evidence, the trial shouldn’t last two minutes.
Keep all the Dem Senators in DC and unable to get out to campaign.
It should take about two minutes. “All those in favor of the motion to impeach President Trump say ‘aye’.”
2 weeks? It shouldn’t take even 2 minutes to vote to dismiss the case.
The GOP Senate had an abbreviated trial for Bubba, the least they can do is the same for Trump.
Screw two weeks. I want it to run right up to Election Day.
I would like to see them drag it out as long as possible.
Subpoena everyone. Let the democrats squirm as much as possible.
One pretext would be: The Senate will never vote in the affirmative, so we will let the voters decide.
The real reason? Subpoenas issues to: Hoover Biden, Joe Biden, Obama, Schiff-for-brains and others
Thought Graham said it was DOA with out testimony from the Leaker.
And the witnesses that Commissar Schiff refused to allow.
So why is there even a discussion?
PS
Since The Rat Filth refused any rebuttal witnesses in their show trial, why bother allowing any of their guys in the Senate?
Graham can just tell them y’all had your chance, pound sand
Me too. I want to see the dems sweating blood. I want them to crawl out of the hearings every day, too weak to walk. I want to see SCHITT squirm and soil his pants like a baby. Etc. Etc. Etc.
I agree but i think they are going to get damned on Biden if they do or don’t. This impeachment scheme is cardboard armor against what the Patriots have against these scumbags.
I say, have the impeachment trial last the whole summer.
He changed his mind. The Leaker will testify in the Senate.
I think those calling the shots know Biden is a losing proposition. His Gaff about 'pounding it home' (or whatever it was), may have been the decider. The Party is about to abandon him (IMHO).
YEP.
Get their lies on the record before the Ukrainians investigations uncover the truth and blow them right out of the 2020 election.
Forty State landslide?
.
Biden has a great opportunity to bow out gracefully. He can say hes moving to Arkansas so he can spend lots of time with his newly-discovered grandson. :-P
Good answer.
