Any candidate in a primary should be asking the same of their opponent.

Every time I hear any references to Watergate unironically, I just roll my eyes and say “whatever, boomer”, which is the few times the phrase it actually justified.

Watergate, whatever you think of it, was actually done halfway seriously, by mostly mature and competent people, over a real issue.

Now ever 65+ year old talking head tries to shoehorn-in dusty references to people that were barely known to people in the 90s.

Towards the end of the Roman republic, a senator who had been elected tribune of plebs, got a law passed (the lex varia) which enabled him to set up a commission to try people for treason.

Because the jury was composed of his political allies from the equestrian order (ordo equites), he used the commission to convict and exile people who did not agree with him politically.

This commission was called, in English, the "Varian Commission".

Since the house impeachment committee is set up for the exact same reason, I propose it be renamed the "Shiffian Commission".
