ORLANDO, Fla. A retired Ormond Beach police officer said he was unwelcome at Universal Studios in Orlando when he showed up with his girlfriend for Halloween Horror Nights and was told he couldn't come in with the shirt he had on. Retired Ormond Beach police Officer Vince Champion says he went to Universal Studios on Nov. 1 wearing a shirt that says on the front, Retired Police Officer along with the blue line in the flag.
Champion said he was stopped at security and told that he could not go into the park with anything that said police officer on it. After an hour of going back and forth and working it up the chain, Champion said was allowed in the park.
Champion said there is no way his shirt could be with an on-duty officers uniform but said as a reserve officer he would certainly help if there was trouble in the park. A Universal spokesperson said in a statement that while they have tremendous respect for law enforcement, they dont want guests or employees getting confused about who is an on duty law enforcement officer.
We want our guests and team members to be able to easily identify active, working, law enforcement. We do not permit guests to wear clothing or items that could cause confusion, the statement said.
My BS sensors are in meltdown mode. What a lame-ass attempt at damage control. So if I went to Universal wearing a NY Mets cap, could I be mistaken for Pete Alonso?
I agree with you.
They are full of it.
Just another reason I boycott all things Hollywood.
Or covered in cow flops and be mistaken for Adam Schiff,
The Universal attendant must be one of those clerks who dislikes the police and jumps at any chance to show that dislike. This stupidity is usually limited to fast food places.
That is one persistent retired police officer. He argued his point for an entire HOUR before the lamebrains allowed him admission. Disgraceful.
Universal is Comcast
Making the connection yet?
Break up Comcast.
False equivalence fallacy!
Maybe you would be mistaken for Pete Alonso (whoever he is), but it would have no consequences.
Being mistaken for a police officer is another matter entirely.
We don't know how this t-shirt looked exactly. "Retired" might have been in very small print.
Regards,
20 years ago, Comcast was some scrappy cable TV provider in Philly and New Jersey, now they rule world
Amazing how things change
And Comcast sucks, even back in the day when they were just a cable TV company. Customers would refer to them as Comcrap, CommieCast or when they ran that promotion “Comcast it’s Comtastic” (late 90’s to 2000’s) a play on “fantastic” it quickly became a joke of “Comcast it’s Craptastic”
And if you ever dared called customer support for anything, like a cable outage or internet outage, you are quickly reminded by their Soviet trained support staff, that you the customer is a total idiot, the problem doesn’t exist, and why are you calling us to waste our time since Comcast is 100% perfect 100% of the time. Dealing with Comcast was like dealing with some sort of Soviet Central committee.
It amazes how this shiatstain of a company grew so big, and so quickly, it would be like Yugo becoming the worlds largest car manufacturer.
I don’t think Disney is so wrong on this as there are T-Shirts with similar and while the Retired is larger it all looks ‘official’. It really should not matter but if they are trying to avoid the confusion, no problem. What bothers me more is not allowing concealed carriers to carry. We gave up on local baseball because they won’t allow in the park but don’t give us armed security from the car to the gate, nor have a check counter to check-in our guns. On that point, why don’t places have that?
Ever went to a place where you had to check your coat?
do you really want them to check your gun?
Just asking
NOPE, I don’t.
What I do want, as a retired lawman, is a REQUIREMENT that EVERY business premise that is OPEN to the “general public” MUST ALLOW concealed carry, by ANY person who is licensed by any US jurisdiction, to carry a handgun concealed.

Why not? If they are going to provide security inside, let them check weapons at the door. All they need is an area to clear guns, a lock box to put it and ammo in, give the visitor key or similar to retrieve their gun when leaving.
Hey Disney, teach your ahole employees how to read. HUH??
Also your executives who are destroying a once great, patriotic American company.
Oh, by the way, get the hell off my property. My relatives owned that land before they sold it to EPCOT/ etc.
Disney =/= Universal
Disney =/= Universal
“they dont want guests or employees getting confused about who is an on duty law enforcement officer.”
I don’t know. I can totally see that being some manager’s true thought process.
Bump. +100
The cluelessness is unfortunate.
Disney is also corrupt, but evidently the love for it is blinding
Its growth is amazing. It competed hard against Disney for the 21 Century assets but lost because it doesnt have the capital.
Comcast must lose either the telecom infrastructure or lose the media properties. It should be illegal for it to control both.
ImVho, the MORE TRUSTWORTHY & TRAINED marksmen that are available at any given location, WHERE a VICIOUS CRIME IS ATTEMPTED, the BETTER the chance that someone will be able to STOP the PREDATORS & before they can complete a MASS MURDER or some other HORRENDOUS/VICIOUS crime.
(Chances are that the marksmen cannot respond before someone is WOUNDED or KILLED but with any luck at all, the armed & licensed men/women can stop the criminals before MANY people are injured or killed.)
