I have to post a correction to my response-
regarding your R/T 524 comment, being so dated I confused that receiver/transmitter component set of the PRC/VRC family of analog single channel legacy radios with the my nemesis as a young grunt- setting up the OE/254 antenna set by myself. But you certainly did make me jog done memory lane. Hammelburg, June 84 while awaiting transition to M2 BFVs ( from a paratrooper to a mech infantryman, not by choice). SSG John Miller was my SL, a real decent NCO and mentor Nam Vet.
Then along came SINCGARS.
Anyway.

By '84 I was wrapping up the Aquila drone support systems for Lockheed. (It was a battlefield camera surveillance drone, deployed from a track and caught in a net. We were playing with the idea of GPS possibilities. Didn't make the majors.) Some of the tech went on into the cruise missile program. Laying out PCBs was always an interesting puzzle.
The M1078 FMTV system was still a few years down the road.
