I think they will vote it down narrowly (I think Nancy has the no votes). This allows them to have their talking points for the campaign and the media without ever getting to the trial and being put under oath.

Because if they do - they are screwed. They will all be put under oath and forced to take the fifth. NONE of the senators who are on the campaign trail will be allowed to talk about it - because for 6 days a week - 6 hours a day they will be forced to be sitting silently in the Senate.

Yep. This going to the Senate would be an absolute nightmare for the D party. I honestly think the D’s are doing this because they can’t stop it, and they are praying to whatever deity they believe in that the court of public opinion will be swayed by this farce, come November of 2020.

The last thing they want to do is put this in the hands of the Senate republicans.

This is fun to watch! The MSM no longer controls the vernacular. The court of public opinion will only come down harder on the D’s. They really don’t have a way out of this.

And it's not something that requires cloture - its a 51 vote rule. The man gets to try his case.

McConnell wants what is best for McConnell. He KNOWS that means to wreck the dems - even if he is saddled with Trump. He's not stupid. He knows this can be )if played right) a TRAINWRECK for the dems.

He also knows if he doesn't allow Trump to destroy the dems - it will be a trainwreck for him and he will go back to being the minority leader - which is the last thing he wants. SO - with that in mind - he will tell Chuckie to pound sand.

I agree & that’s probably what will happen. Also McConnell could play a delaying game where he maximizes the time on the trial in the Senate & minimizes the time left for Rat’s to campaign. Whatever happens its a distraction no one other then a deluded few want and the public will resent. I think that will be reflected at the ballot box with a major Trump triumph barring some unforeseen black swan event.

The primary consideration is HISTORY.

If the House Democrats actually impeach the President, HISTORY demands a trial in the Senate.

When I consider all the time and money spent by Freepers (including getting our name) impeaching Bill Clinton I now find my self on the other side. Was our intense effort for naught?

History says the Senate made a choice to deny our efforts to oust a sitting president who actually lied on the witness stand in a court of law.

mcconnell is up for election this cycle. I don't believe he will be re-elected if Trump is removed.

It IS! Many here are not playing the long game. They are pissed (and rightfully so) but not thinking strategically.

2020 will be a 430 point electoral college win if Trump is impeached and allowed a full defense.

I was at the rally in Lexington just before our last vote. McConnel was on stage with Trump. McConnel is a politician. He knows that in the commonwealth of Kentucky, the only way McConnel can come against trump is if Trump is found with “a live boy or a dead girl.”
