The Democratic National Committee and the news organization Politico are locked in an argument over the ideological credentials of a proposed moderator for next month's Democratic debate, sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.
Politico and PBS are scheduled to co-host the sixth Democratic primary debate on Dec. 19 in Los Angeles.
At the behest of its publisher, Robert Allbritton, Politico is pushing for Tim Alberta, the chief political correspondent for Politico Magazine, to join journalists from PBS Newshour at the moderators' desk. The top PBS journalists under consideration are Judy Woodruff, Yamiche Alcindor and Amna Nawaz.
Politicos decision to push for Alberta has rankled officials at the DNC, as well as some journalists at PBS and even Politico, the sources said. The reason: Alberta previously wrote for National Review, a conservative magazine, and has spent the bulk of his recent career chronicling the Republican Party.
Democratic Party officials say such a journalist is ill-suited to co-moderate a debate meant to better inform Democratic voters about their potential nominees.

How come the RNC never complained when the debate organizers stacked the panelists with leftists for GOP debates?
Michael Steele.

Prissy Mathews and Prissy Walters.
If they need a ‘Rat moderator, I volunteer!
The DNC decides which candidate goes into the general election. Not the voters and not the media. So why shouldn’t they decide who moderates pointless primary debates?

But they have no problem with denying access to the Presidential Debates to anyone even remotely conservative...
Tim Alberta
What about Joe Saskatchewan? Kumar Nunavut?
Mike was a real nice guy in person.

Who will watch this train wreck?
Just like at the Fox News Republican primary debate the last time around.
They staged a never-ending series of cage matches instead of better informing the viewers of Republican issues and positions.

Hellary could use the gig to start her campaign.
Oh noes, a moderator who may not me a dem partisan hack, what will they do?!
I miss the days of Steele winning elections. Dont like the current McRomney who has a poor track record of winning.
“They staged a never-ending series of cage matches instead of better informing the viewers of Republican issues and positions.”
indeed they did, but ironically, by putting the candidates into the gotcha pressure cooker, we got to see who could stand the heat and who folded under pressure better than a bunch of softball, nothing-burger questions would have ...
