Dems said similar things about Ollie North. They noted that Poindexter did not wear his uniform and North did so for effect. So are you saying the Dems were correct in their criticism of Col. North?

The big difference is that North was defending the Administration, Vindman is an active participant in the conspiracy to remove the President.
