Trump Asks Supreme Court to Bar Release of His Tax Returns

WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to bar his accounting firm from turning over eight years of his tax returns to Manhattan prosecutors.

The case, the first concerning Mr. Trump’s personal conduct and business dealings to reach the court, could yield a major ruling on the scope of presidential immunity from criminal investigations.

Last week, a unanimous three-judge panel of a federal appeals court in Manhattan ruled against Mr. Trump, rejecting his argument that he was absolutely immune from criminal investigation while he remains in office. The court, in a focused ruling, said state prosecutors may require third parties to turn over a sitting president’s financial records for use in a grand jury investigation.

When this goes to the Court, it should be demanded that Democrat appointees to the Court recuse themselves from the case.

“The case, the first concerning Mr. Trump’s personal conduct and business dealings to reach the court, could yield a major ruling on the scope of presidential immunity from criminal investigations.”

Immunity from what?

What criminal investigation?

What evidence?

It is a simply matter of right to privacy.

Time for Ginsburger’s replacement.

This will set a bad precedent if allowed to stand. Anyone not meeting certain ‘standards’ could become a target through their tax returns. SO.SICK.OF.THIS.SH*T

It’s a violation of the President’s 4th Amendment rights.

As is the entire federal income tax code.

This was recognized by virtually everyone 70 years ago when people had a memory of what America was supposed to be like before FDR and the Socialists started to destroy it with “the New Deal”.

Isnt there some kind of rule that makes democrats provide some kind of information justifying the release of personal information for stronger reasons than desire for fishing expeditions or desire to harass or blackmail business associates?

And you can expect that his private financial information will be leaked.

Yes, if Trump has to release his tax returns, so does everyone else.

President Trump is on solid ground as we cannot have a viable nation if a president is target of state or even federal criminal investigations.

If Executive Immunity is not upheld, then every future president will spend their entire term fighting frivolous investigations.

The federal withholding was among the most insidious acts ever perpetrated on the American people. If people had to come with the money they owed the Government at the end of the year they would burn DC to the ground. I don’t trust the SC on this that is for sure. This is just another fishing move against Trump for 20.

Two can play this game. After trump is re-elected, he should order the IRS to examine and expose to the public all tax returns of all 535 congressmen.

It is a simply matter of right to privacy.

It's the lynchpin to cooperation with Treasury [taxes] and Commerce [Census].

No privacy - no cooperation.

Excellent point.

What if he showed interest in some property then seemed to back off. His financial rivals could say "I get it, the new hotel and golf course won't be at there after all. Don't buy the land. Trump isn't going to develop it."

There was total secrecy to help the Little Caesar's pizza emperor and Detroit Tigers Owner Mike Illich (RIP) add the complex for the Detroit Red Wings in a particular area. Also condos, office space and restaurants with parking lots. His secret buying of low value land and then leaking stories of other areas to throw people off guard allowed him to move in on one region quietly. Big moguls do this often. Not if their financial records are leaked to the NYT, however.

I should expect that a compromised, old-biddy buzzard of a judge who insulted PDJT during the 2016 election season would recuse herself if she had any ethics, at all, but this is expecting way too much, for a card-carrying member of the Resistance.

It is very easy to see how the information might be misused. And we have an expectation of the IRS bureaucracy that our tax returns will remain confidential.

What criminal investigation?
If there were any probable cause at all, it would be unremarkable for an investigation to be performed - and for income tax records to be subpoenaed.

The problem here is that the Democrat prosecutor in NY is politically motivated to investigate - and hope to embarrass - a Republican who successfully ran for office. It would be bad enough if it were a dog catcher - but this is the POTUS.

The real issue is the use of a taxpayer-funded office to prosecute opposition research. Mr. Trump has an absolute right to run for POTUS, and to hold the office for the term he wins. No government official, at any level, has the right to investigate him on the government - state or federal - dime just because he feels like it. It is transparently intended to prevent any other non-member of the establishment from ever daring to run.

If its ruled that trump has to then we should light a fire under every GOP a## and demand every elected official that works for the people should release theirs for review and scrutiny

You assume that the IRS would obey. You assume wrong.

I heard Walt Disney operated in secret, when he assembled numerous parcels of land where Disney World and Epcot Center would be built. I’m sure this secrecy happens all the time.
