The Senate on Thursday confirmed Steven Menashi to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, bringing an end to a confirmation battle that at times drew ire from members of both parties toward the judicial nominee.
The Senate confirmed Menashi 51 to 41, largely along party lines. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, broke with her party to vote against the nominee. Menashis confirmation flips the Second Circuit to a majority of Republican appointees.
In March, the president flipped the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals with the confirmation of Paul Matey.
That’s going to smart a bit.
NY has been refusing blue slips on their district judges and they have 12 district vacancies - 9 of which are classified as emergencies.
NJ has 6 all of which are considered emergent.
California is the worst at 14 vacancies 13 rated emergent.
When the NY vacancies are filled Eastern District of New York will flip.
When the District of New Jersey vacancies are filled the district will flip.
In California filling the vacancies will flip Southern District of California. Central District of California will secure a broad republican majority with seating of Trump nominees in the vacant seats. Northern California will remain majority democrat appointed and Western California is tied with no vacancies.
In short NY State Liberals have more to look forward to as POTUS fills vacancies. The pressure of the open seats and resultant backlog will in the end lead to capitulation or to blue slips being symbolic rather than blocking nominees. With Eastern NY & NJ majority Republican appointed district judges the people of those states may see some sanity return.
Boy, does that burn a smoking hole in me to this day...
What a great expression. I’m gonna borrow that in the future if you don’t mind :)
And the part about at least getting stabbed in the front instead of the back was great too.
I’m gonna borrow that one too from time to time if you don’t mind :)
I’ve learned a number of different expressions and great comments from FR and I wonder if they are things that are more common in other parts of the country, as i am not well traveled, or just great original quips by FReepers :)
Needless to say, I enjoyed your post a lot. :)
If the system is rigged, there are other ways to "vote".
“at least Collins voted for Kavanaugh.
If you remember, the dems first tried to bribe her. Then when that didnt work, they resorted to threats...... which promptly pissed the living sh!t out of Collins.
I knew she was going to vote YES.”
++++
I followed the threads during that time. One of the threads was that Graham THREATENED Collins and this was right after he did the same thing to Manchin of W Va.
I know a lot of Freepers hate Turtle and Graham but those 2 are de facto leaders of why Kavanaugh and Gohmert et al rest of fed judges our judges more than 150 and counting) are seated right now..
I honestly don’t have confidence. Intellectually, it is clear this is a politically motivated smear because...the Left doesn’t have anything.
They have nothing.
Their only hope is to try to muddy and foul the waters so much that they will campaign on a platform opposing Trump’s “corruption”, “incompetence”, and “stupidity”.
Ironic, given that Trump’s administration is probably the most squeaky clean of any administration in recent memory because he knows they are trying to pin SOMETHING...ANYThing on him.
But that is all the Left has. After the impeachment, they will make something else up. And when that is past, something else.
Nobody stands up on the Republican side and says “Just Stop this absurdity.”
Nobody.
All we can do right now is just wait and see how this comes out...
And who has pictures of them being compromised?
Did Speaker Hastert appoint Shimkus of Southern IL to head the effort to get bribe and extortion material on everyone in Congress (in the early Bush II years) ?
Did Shimkus hire Davis to compile the dossiers ?
Did a fellow Illinois Republican mysteriously resign unexpectedly and Shimkus led the effort to appoint Davis to the vacancy?
Did Davis know so much on other that he was the offer made that other Congress critters and IL politicians could not refuse?
I’ll bet that providing young girls to politicians of all stripes was what Epstein used to make his fortune. Blackmail was probably his business. Remember, he was a “friend of Bill”. How else did he make millions? He owns half of the politicians.
It goes without saying that many of us have had to suck it up and vote for people we would never have touched with a ten foot pole. McCain and Romney are two that come to mind immediately. But what were we going to do? Vote for Obama? Or not vote at all?
I admit, I have a few posts where I mused about voting for Obama to "grease the skids" towards a day of reckoning for this country, but...I honestly don't think I could have done it.
Now, I am so politically polarized that I am of the opinion that anyone who enthusiastically supported Obama (or Hillary, Sanders, or any other Leftist) is irredeemably damaged, mentally impaired, and an object example of the absolute worst example of any portion of the electorate that exists in this country. I can't consort with them, and have to avoid interacting with them.
Which is a problem.
I had a member of my family send me an email (I think I was accidentally included because I know that family member cares for me greatly and goes out of the way to avoid any political discussions when there is any kind of family event) a few months after the 2016 election. This was the email:
It really bothered me, because I view these people as enemies of this country, not just people whose opinions are not shared by me. There is a difference, and it is borne out in what we have seen since day one of the Trump Presidency. These people are willing to destroy the fabric of this country and take us all down with it because they cannot come to grips with losing the election.
It is interesting to see the difference-When Obama was elected-twice-I didn't know any conservatives who were going to engage in illegal activity, subterfuge, or outright sabotage. I didn't hear any of that, and we were plenty unhappy. But point is, we lost, and that was that. We just had to let them have their way until the next election, when we could try to oust them, as Americans have done since George Washington was first elected.
But they don't see it that way. They are willing to burn down the fabric of this country over a temper tantrum.
That is why this email hurt me so much. This family member, someone I love, was a driving force in it. I simply cannot bring myself to face that family member, so I am just avoiding the family. I am keeping bridges open, but...I simply cannot be around the family. They are consorting with people whose actions I believe are fully subersive and seditious.
It saddens me in ways I cannot even express. I have lost so much respect, and I don't want to risk fracturing a relationship. I am still trying to find a way to grapple with it and come to terms.
This isn't just "politics". That would be stupid. This is about people who intentionally want to destroy the very fabric of what holds (and has held) this country together. This idiotic Mueller Investigation and Impeachment are proof of the desire of these people to destroy this country for craven and weak political purposes, and I just cannot do any less than reject and condemn it root and branch.
I really appreciated hearing that from a Freeper like you. Anything I put out on FR is to be shared...because I sure do share things from others I see and read.
It is why I have been a paying member since I could afford it. I live in a solid blue state, and sometimes I get a feeling of ideological isolation, and wonder “Am I the only person not falling for the political insanity in this state?”
FR does make me remember that this is a small state, and there are a lot of Americans out there just like me.
So, thank you. Your comments there made a world of difference for me.
If they succeed, they're going to reap the whirlwind.
Because they're after US. Trump is just in the way.
I’m glad and my words were real :)
buona sera
Good for you man.
But these ####s should know that George Will is no lone the face of the party and there’s PLENTY of sick ####s who voted for Trump and they would do well to know they are soft and would fall quickly and HARD.
I got MANY blue collar friends who voted Trump and I’ve known these guys since I was a kid. I’m 51 now.
They don’t play around and would gladly do damage to people who try to hurt our country or Trump.
Not every Conservative is rich and never threw a punch.
They need to know that.
I’m not familiar with the names but I’m familiar with the strategy.
This whole government besides Trump and a few people STINKS.
A picture with a girlfriend on the side is a bad thing but is survivable.
HOW CAN so many lay down with children?!?!
It turns my stomach. It does worse than that.
I’m sorry for how this email made you feel, but I understand it’s unavoidable...
I don’t understand the mindset of people who have no problem destroying the country they live in the way the hard left has been doing things the last three years...
In the back of my mind, I can see how no matter which way this 2020 election goes, there will be trouble...It could get extremely serious...
Good news! We’ll see if it means anything.
Is the one questionable - 5th Court - is his confirmation in question or is his reliability in question?
