Washington (CNN)Dramatic new disclosures on Day 1 of the House impeachment hearings painted an incriminating picture of Donald Trump as a President instinctively willing to sacrifice America's interests for his own.
In the most critical step so far in the investigation into Trump's alleged scheme to coerce Ukraine's help for his reelection campaign, Democrats posed a question to every US citizen at the core of this dark national chapter.
"If this is not impeachable conduct, what is?" House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, asked, arguing that the republic's values and the concept of an accountable presidency were at stake for future generations.
Using as their first witnesses two conscientious, apolitical diplomats who devoted their lives to national service, Democrats built a foundation for a case that Trump abused his far greater power. It is a story certain to play out again and again in the coming weeks as lawmakers contemplate whether to deal Trump the historic stigma of being only the third president to be impeached.
In Wednesday's most striking moment, the top US diplomat in Ukraine, Bill Taylor, revealed a previously undisclosed call between Trump and the US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland that took place a day after Trump's notorious talk with Ukraine's President in July.
He said that an aide -- who heard the call on a mobile phone while in a restaurant in a scenario that raised national security concerns -- reported that Trump asked Sondland about "the investigations" into former Vice President Joe Biden that he had requested from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump told reporters on Wednesday he had no memory of the event.

What exactly is America’s interest in the Ukraine? Up till now I thought it was to provide employment and money to politically connected Americans.

The sitting Vice President of the US was being paid millions of dollars via his son to influence the Ukrainian government in a way that benefited the payer. The Vice President is on video stating it. The record of the payments is a fact. Some of the same guys accusing Trump recognized that the VP was wrong at the time.
Why is it wrong for the current President to demand an investigation and cooperation with the sitting AG on a matter of high crimes by Joe Biden? Does running for office put Biden above the law?

Yep, the democrats featured two purest of saints who bared their tortured souls in order to save the world from the clutches of the knuckle-dragging neanderthal that refuses to listen to their divine counsel.
The headline is actually accurate. Schiff, a creative screenwriter, produced a “damning portrait” of Trump. It’s fake news by design, but it’s a damning portrait.
The Republican attorney seemed to be asking preparatory questions, setting the table. This paved the way for the reps to go for the knockout punches.
What a loaded description of the diplomats. More like saints.
The whole world is awash in stupidity if this is what passes for being a witness.
So this is how the dims are going to play it in the hope of drumming up support. Release a new innocuous piece of information each day and blow it up in the media as an explosive revelation.

CNN heard it from MSNBC, who heard it from Schit,who heard it from some fake whistleblower, who heard it from....
Keep your calendar clear for next week. The Democrats may want to call you as a witness.

The headline and most of the news story were likely written a few days ago.
These liberal media hacks witnessed a different hearing than most people. They need to find something out of the hearings, to keep their side alive. There was nothing yesterday that proves anything. It was all opinion and hearsay.
CNN is no longer a “news organization”. It is the propaganda arm of the left. They can and have simply make stuff up. Their job is to influence opinion.
What CNN and other news outlets should keep in mind is that they are creating a false expectation for their viewers that President Trump will not only be impeached but that he will be removed from office.
In order for that to happen, all these witness will have to come before the house/and or Senate, and the rules of evidence will be much stricter and they will be under oath.
As an example, “I heard from someone that they heard something” is not going to allowed
Or, “I feel what the President was doing was wrong” will not be allowed.
Also, it will be established that the President of the United States sets our foreign policy and it is what ever he wants it to be.
The bottom line is there is no crime here and if the Democrats even impeaches the President the Senate will not remove him but not before exposing the Democrat’s lies.
What are the faithful CNN viewers going to do when they discovered it was all an illusion?
Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of all this is that the Democrats are re-writing the rules for the opposition.
Endless obstruction.
Endless investigations
Impeachment when you don’t like the President.
Do they really think that everything will go back as it was before? I don’t.
