Built on lagoon sand, Venice is sinking and flood will only get worse. New Orleans is another example of a place that will be reclaimed by water, as well as much of Holland.

Note to self: don’t live at or below sea level near the sea.

Venice? Isn’t that the city the Italians built on a lagoon and which has been disposing of garbage and human waste into the canals for centuries?

FTA: The high tide peaked at 74 inches late Tuesday, just short of the 76 inches set during record flooding of 1966

So when did this global warming start again?
I thought an ice age was happening in the 1970’s. Maybe the glacier melted in Venice.....

The Moses project would have stopped this if it wasn’t over budget, behind schedule and full of corruption

What I remember most was the smell. Bad sewer nostril experience.

I was there in the late 90’s for Mardi Gras. All of San Marcos Square was under water but not as bad as these photos.

The floods are naturally going to appear worse every year, because the little islands that make up Venice are slowly sinking.

“historic squares of Venice...” put in to be able to use the word “historic” - “Second highest in history” used to get “history/historic” tie-ins into people’s minds...

I guess these days the word “historic” means there’s been a history of the event but now it really really means something...

Venice was sinking the moment the first piering was pounded into the sand over 1500 years ago.
