The burden of proof is on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Burbank) to do more than secure impeachment, which is all but certain.

That’s the key point. While it is enjoyable to see Ratcliffe dunk on Schiff all day it won’t change the outcome in the House.

Though, no doubt, Democrat moderates/vulnerables will have a gun to their heads expecting/forcing them to vote with the majority in the House for impeachment regardless of evidence or testimony, Trump's acquittal in the Senate will serve to punish ALL the Democrats as well as the Deep State denizens for their blatant political coup attempt for years to come.

Does anyone think Pelosi will come to her senses and put a stop to it all before it goes that far? I know their entire aim was to bloody up Trump for next year's election, but they HAVE to know it will only embolden his base and win more sensible people to his side. Schiff and Nancy will go down in history as the ones who almost single-handedly destroyed the Democrat party. Of course, they could decide after the hearings to NOT vote for impeachment because of lack of evidence and it's over. That's the only way I see they can go and retain any semblance of propriety and honor. It's the only way they might save face before the American people though I'd be delighted to see them all crash and burn. That party has veered so far left they have lost their right minds!

Yep. Not sure they are any good at strategizing this, but this can end in committee with a "sorry not enough evidence to advance articles of impeachment," or one of the members can force the issue to the House floor as a question of privilege.

Using recent history as a guide, whatever they advance will literally be nonsense. See, e.g., the fake subpoena letters, "Under our power to legislate, we order you to appear at an impeachment inquisition." <- scare quotes, not a literal quote of the fake subpoeana letters that went out BEFORE the whole House passed H.Res.660 invoking its power to investigate for purposes of impeachment.

Thinking along those lines, I think the current holder of that distinction goes to Harry Reid. Yes, Harry Reid. He changed the rules of the senate to only need a simple majority for confirming judges. That has allowed President Trump to load the system with conservative judges. Given another term President trump will set records for appointment of judges, including potentially 5-6 supreme court justices.

President Trump might end up having 5 or 6 SCJs confirmed before its all said and done. Ginsburg at 86 with failing health is a sure thing. Probably Beyer, who's 81, won't last another 5 years. And then there's the health of 65 year old Sotomayor. Will she want to hang around for 5 more years if her situation gets worse? A sixth SCJ could be Clarence Thomas. If he sees the political winds might change in 2024, and he's 71 now, would he want to get out in advance of the end of President Trumps term ends so he can be replaced by another conservative?

That would be the most SCJs confirmed since FDR packed the court. Of the presidents in my lifetime, Nixon and Reagan had four and Ike had 5. (Truman also had 4)
