I was wrong. It was closer to 650 miles.

"In May 2011, the Department of Homeland Security stated that it had 649 miles (1,044 km) of barriers in place."

The Secure Fences Act was passed when W Bush was in office and implemented under Obama. Border security only became "racist" when Trump was elected as a wedge issue for Democrats and RINO/DIABLO types.

You are reading it wrong. The 649 miles of barrier were not “built” while Obama was in office, they already there. That is what the “in place” refers to. Also there is just about 350 miles of pedestrian fencing included in the total you cite the rest are vehicle blockades,
