KSL investigates the secret score that determines how a company will treat you

If you have ever owned a smartphone, shopped online, bought an airline ticket or used a credit card, you are being secretly scored in ways that can impact your wallet. The scorers are businesses we buy products and services from every day.

They are called Customer Lifetime Value or CLV scores. All sorts of retailers and businesses use them to judge our value as consumers...

most businesses will not tell you what your score is. “It’s not your right as a consumer right now,” Thomas said. “Nobody has legislated that it’s your right to see it and to have input into it like they have other scores like your credit score.”...

Some compare the use of CLV scores to China’s developing social credit system that scores people’s reputations on their good and bad deeds... A key difference is that China’s social credit system is government-run and people know where they stand — good or bad. In America, consumers are tracked and scored by private companies who don’t share that score.

My wife and I were born in the depression. Our parents made shopping lists of stuff used everyday/week/month.

They checked the prices of those products on a regular basis. If the product doesn’t spoil or have a short shelf life, they would buy more than one item and store it.

Both mothers were good with basic math and calculating when something was really on sale and to when buy and how much to buy.

We developed the same habits. We pick up orders at Walmart and see the prices on things we use all the time.

We take advantage of Costco’s sale items that we use on a regular basis. I use Systane Ultra eye drops, and Costco has 3 bottles on sale at a great price, about every 3 months. So I load up on it.

We use Walmart’s order on line and order about once a week. They have a list of regular order items and their prices. If something is on sale at a good price and will not spoil, again we buy a good quantity.

Prime somehow monitors, what we are looking at on Walmart and other stores via the internet. Again, if the price right, I will buy on Prime.

My wife follows what our Mother’s did with ads. Our grocery store ads arrive on Wednesday. She glances at them to see if we want to order anything. The 3 stores we use can be blended in with trips to the library, church to avoid driving to just get the on sale stuff.

We fill 3 bags a month with canned goods for 3 local charities. She targets the good prices for 3 or more of the same canned item. Again we don’t drive out of the way to get these items. The 3 charities have people pickup the bags on a monthly basis.

Our DIl’s, sons and younger friends look at us like we are crazy because we do this.

I guess I’m dense...I don’t get it.

I was responding to the previous post -

Marketing is invasive and insidious. Fear and hate are two basic marketing themes. Marketing is far more effective than people realize at selling products and ideas.

The photo is an example of these marketing techniques pointed out by Meatloaf. Sorry for the double post, I only clicked once.

I actually haven’t wondered about that but if people are that easily fooled then so be it.

The Pareto principle (also known as the 80/20 rule in action): The smart side, 20% of your customers create 80% of your business. On the flip side, 80% of your problems are caused by 20% of your customers.

The way you make your business prosper is by making sure you retain the good 20%, and figure out a way to "fire" the troublesome 20% without creating an "issue" in the process.

Once knew a guy whose father was an exec at ADT.

He, the guy, wasn’t thrilled with the ADT commercials running back in the mid 1980s.

So, logical assumption is that I should CARE as to what score I have or that I should CARE what a particular merchant/vendor, etc CARES about me.

Pffttt!

I fart in their direction.

Works both ways.

The great decider...MY dollar bill, and who gets it.

I don't give a damn if "they" like me, I have to like "them" for "them" to receive my money.

What a joke.

As if "their" feelings matter!

I’m amazed at how many Freepers and so called conservatives in the real world don’t feel the way you do.
Add to your premise: Politicians need our vote.
