The level of Associated Press bias is unfathomable. According to them the fall of the Berlin wall was "Klausmeier paid tribute to the peaceful protesters in East Germany and neighboring Warsaw Pact countries who took to the streets demanding freedom and democracy, and to then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's policy of reforms.
Yes, they were quoting Klausmeier, but there is no mention anywhere in the entire article of Reagan's significant role in the wall coming down, or of the State Department's despicable role on the wrong side of the issue.
The story goes on to state "The protests and a stream of people fleeing East Germany piled pressure on the country's Communist government to open its borders to the West and ultimately end the nation's post-war division."
Wow! The 'protests and stream of people fleeing' did the trick. That's amazing.
Then the Associated Press continues with the lie/narrative as spoken by Chancellor Merkel "'The Berlin Wall, ladies and gentlemen, is history and it teaches us: No wall that keeps people out and restricts freedom is so high or so wide that it can't be broken down,' she said." The only problem with that statement, obviously intended for President Trump, is that the Berlin wall was built to keep the people of East Berlin IN, not to keep people OUT. That distinction shouldn't be too hard for anyone to understand, even for liberals, elitists and socialists.
True to form, all of the usual idiots (fake news outlets) ran this story unedited this morning.

Merkel is probably crying while she reflects on the loss of the wall.

The headline is deceptive The ‘opening of the wall’ required freedom fighters with axes and picks and hammers on both the west side of the wall and on the east side.
It was a victory of the west which had Reagan, Thatcher, Kohl and Pope John Paul II as promoters of freedom to all people.

I know the wall came down in 1989 and am aware of Reagans role but was not aware of any actions by the State Dept in opposition.
Can you enlighten me?

I say move the monument to Berlin. The one that honored the 100 million they killed.

No, they are overlooking the anniversary of Kristallnacht.
Has Germany ever noted that particular anniversary in their history?
To: billyboy15
One thing is that they kept on removing the "Tear down this wall" line from President Reagan's speech in Berlin because it was too provocative.

If the Antifa thugs weren'tt so ignorant of their own philosophical origins, theyd be celebrating that date for the pogroms they so readily emulate.

The Daily Mail is working mighty hard to make sure Reagan gets no credit for the fall of the wall. Highlighting Merkel, instead... sheeesh.

Let me guess. The liberals will talk of how walls should be obliterated, and use this anniversary as a metaphor for how walls on our national borders are evil; that they are the same as the Berlin Wall.
To: billyboy15
When writing the speech Reagan REALLY wanted the “tear down this wall” line in the speech.
The speech was rewritten several times. Each time that one line was taken out. First by Michael Deaver then by Colin Powell.
On the car ride to the speech Reagan still wanted it in. One of his aides told him “you’re the President, if you like it leave it in.”
