The original Marlboro Man died this week at his Colorado Springs ranch at the ripe old age of 90 likely because he never actually smoked cigarettes. Norris quit the business suddenly after realizing he was setting a bad example for his two daughters and two sons.

Can't say he ever influenced me - I was a "tough guy" and smoked a cigarette without a filter - Lucky Strikes - and I never let advertising affect my decisions :)
Nevertheless, the Marlboro Man was only one of a great number of successful ad icons from the '60s.

In a similar way, those really good 70s and 80s beer commercials (less filling /taste great) never got me to buy a beer.
Never picked up the taste for alcohol. Coffee for that matter

Be warned, you will be humming the theme music for the rest of the day........Originally composed, for the movie "The Magnificent Seven," by Elmer Bernstein.
"His theme for The Magnificent Seven is also familiar to television viewers, as it was used in commercials for Marlboro cigarettes." - Wikipedia

Funny they promoted the “rich tobacco flavor” as an actual thing. Like anyone smoked for the “rich tobacco flavor”!

I agree, my grandmother’s youngest brother died last year at 97, he smoked bull durham tobacco hand rolled his whole life. I remember being in awe watching him roll one with one hand while driving a tractor.
Of course my grandmother was 102 when she passed, so the genes are probably pretty decent.

Good thing he drank alcohol and didn’t vape.

Do not see snowflakes selling Marlboro’s
Heck, do not see snowflakes surviving a week in Marlboro country

And the Virginia Slims models now weigh in at more than 235 pounds and are over 60 years old.

My dad died at age 60.
A pack a day of Camels did it.

Yep, I understand, Doc.
The sentence is ambiguous; It has two possible meanings. It is poorly written.

A real cowboy with the last name of Steele from Burkburnett, Texas, was the first Marlboro man of which I was aware. I had always heard he was the first. I question the veracity of this article.
To: oh8eleven
If I remember correctly, there were two other Marlboro men who did not fare well.
I believe one died of lung cancer, the other died when a horse he was breaking fell into a pond trapping him.
