Republican senators are lukewarm on Sessions running for his old seat

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he warned Sessions during a recent conversation about his potential candidacy that he needed to make up with Trump.

"He is a friend of mine. I'll be doing everything I can to encourage him," Cornyn said. "The problem, as I pointed out to him, is, 'I think your life is going to be very difficult unless you work out some sort of reconciliation with the president.' "

The seat, which Sessions easily held for two decades before leaving for the Trump administration, is currently filled by a Democrat. Doug Jones won the seat from a traditionally conservative state in a special election in 2017, beating Republican Roy Moore, who faced allegations that he propositioned teenagers when he was in his 30s. Moore is running again, joined by Rep. Bradley Byrne and several other Republicans in the state.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has shared concerns that Sessions' running could create a messy primary contest for a seat that Republicans say they have to win back, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the issue. Trump has repeatedly denigrated Sessions to allies and White House aides in recent days, people familiar with his comments said.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., one of Trump's closest allies on Capitol Hill, called Sessions a "fine man" but added that he wouldn't endorse him in the primary.

"The whole campaign's going to be around what President Trump said about Jeff Sessions," Graham said. "I think Jeff knows what he's getting into and we'll leave it up to the voters of Alabama."

.

It’s just not the Recusal!

After that, Sessions blocked a real Investigation of Comey, Hillary, FISA, Surveillance, Strzok, Yates, Ohr, Loretta Lynch.

Sessions is 100% Deep State.

Anyone that claims differently just hasn’t been paying attention.

No way. It’s another republican vote for removal if there’s a trial.

Agree with everything you write.

Sessions is 72. He should know by now you can’t go home again. He is forever tarnished by his stint as AG. He failed spectacularly during historic times. Trump’s first term was heavily hamstrung due to Sleepy’s DOJ Democrat endorsed recusal and he shows no ability to accept that fact.

Here’s a notion, AL business is all of our business when there is such a narrow R (53 to 47) majority in Congress.

Roy Moore would be trouble.

Sessions was always one of the best border protection Senators we ever had.

Ah yes. The Romney gambit.

You could give a shit about upholding the constitution or national sovereignty either, and your methodology used to try to push an unelectable backbiter makes that clear.

Sessions betrayal of the Trump administration is the beat to which this campaign is moving and all who embrace Sessions dishoerable behavior will be tarred by it.

You folks in Alabama can sort it out. I don’t trust Sessions, Moore is damaged goods. The others I don’t know, so ya’ll do your due diligence and make good things happen. As an old Missouri peckerwood, redneck, gomer, hillbilly. I’ll go with that. Oh I still have my original teeth too. Ain’t that sweet. :)

“best border protection Senator” period.
Also reliably conservative and loyal to Trump’s vision.

LOL!

We have a reverse here of the “Trump’s no consevrative” vs “true Trumpers” fight the media got going in 2016.
Can’t believe people are stupid enough to fall for it, nah- of course I can.

"Rep. Bradley Byrne"

Is this who we want? If it's not, then LiverLips needs to make a sidewinder speech at some conservative org where Sessions completes ALL of the following:

Then, and only then, is Jeff Sessions a viable candidate for Senate.

Which is why you do not take a voting Republican senator out of the Senate to become AG. It made no sense at all.

Sessions has a lot of name recognition but - who knows what the BS with recusing himself with the whole Russian Collusion deal did to his reputation with voters. They need a strong candidate. We can’t afford to lose 1 senator.

His reputation with the voters will have a huge impact. If all goes as planned, Sessions will emerge from the coming onslaught against the deep state as a national hero.(he played his part to perfection, as did Trump) Trump will enthusiastically endorse Sessions and he will win the seat.

That’s a very good point.
Jeff’s one vote could have kept McCain from doing immense damage to the country.

And Roy Moore’s vote to repeal obamacare wouldn’t have? The GOP cared so little about Obamacare repeal and their senate majority that they campaigned for progressive Democrat Doug Jones. What’s good for the goose...

Yes, when that was announced, I thought that it was curious, to say the least.

Answer this.

If they run out and Vote for Sessions, embracing a man that single handed blocked Trump from exposing the Coup against him -

What message does that send to Lindsey Graham?

Richard Burr

Mark Rubio

Senators Romney is recruiting?

Shelby?

They may decide they can vote to Impeach and be back in the good graces Club in no time.

They all know what Sessions did, and the shield he put up around the Conspirators.
