A push by President Trump and conservatives to dig into Hunter Bidens work in Ukraine is running into stumbling blocks from an unusual corner: congressional Republicans.
Some Republicans believe Trumps impeachment trial or a separate Senate committee inquiry could lay the groundwork for investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, who have both emerged as a fixation for Trump and his top allies as they look for a foothold in the impeachment battle.
Trump escalated the effort on Thursday when he tweeted that the Bidens must testify raising the specter that the presidents lawyers or GOP senators could try to drag them into the public impeachment trial.
What did Hunter Biden do for the money? @SenJohnKennedy A very good question. He and Sleepy Joe must testify! Trump tweeted.
But a push to focus on the Bidens as part of an impeachment trial quickly received a cool reception from Republicans on Capitol Hill.
His lawyers, I presume, can ask for any witnesses they want. But I think we ought to keep focus on the articles of impeachment and not go down any rabbit trails, said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told The Hill.
Asked about Trump floating that the Bidens should testify, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he didnt understand it as a "defense to the president. Well make that decision, not the president, Graham added.

Run a search on the elections of 1800 and 1824.
POPULAR VOTE
Clinton -- 43%
Bush -- 37%
Perot -- 19%
ELECTORAL VOTES
Clinton -- 370
Bush -- 168
Perot -- 0
It's not a majority of the POPULAR VOTE that drives the results. It's the ELECTORAL VOTE. And the last time a third party candidate even won a single state in a presidential election was George Wallace in 1968.
And if Donald Trump ran as an independent in 2020 and somehow nobody won a majority of the Electoral Vote, do you honestly expect Congress -- comprised almost entirely of Democrats and Republicans -- to elect him to the White House?
No. remember Ross Perot? all these third party pushers have not a lick of common sense. inevitably it only splits the republican party and we lose.
makes no difference to the Democrats if their candidate shares there personal ideology or not they vote to win.
hope that answered you question
you do understand that Clinton only got that many electoral votes because perot split the vote in many states and those electoral votes then went to clinton instead of Bush right?
because it IS the popular vote in each state the decides the electors.
so without a doubt Bush only lost due to the split vote.
That is why the ENTIRE INSIDE THE EVIL BELTWAY ESTABLISHMENT IS TERRIFIED THAT DJT WILL “OUT” THEM AS ENEMIES OF WE THE PEOPLE!
We MUST re-elect President Trump and help him totally and completely drain the swamp!
Thank you for keeping our attention focused on our real enemies!
I was responding to a previous poster who responded to a question about whether Trump might be better off running as an independent in 2020, and presented a scenario where Trump might get 34% of the vote. Was that supposed to be a winning scenario? LOL.
Ross Perot got 0 Electoral Votes with 21% of the popular vote. He didn't win a single state. The best he did was get just over 30% of the popular vote in Maine -- and I only think he finished SECOND among the three major candidates in two or three states.
How does Trump get 270 Electoral Votes with 34% of the popular vote? And if NOBODY gets 270 Electoral Votes, then how does Trump manage to win a special election in Congress where almost everyone is a Democrat or a Republican?
my bad :)
my bad :)
I had thrown that out before - AND bringing the ‘true believers’ with him BUT probably too late to get on the ballots and can’t really ‘trust’ a write in vote.
Maybe for the 3rd term.....<: <: <:
The vote percentage doesn’t matter. It is based on the Electoral College, so I assume that is what you mean. It’s not going to happen, so why pretend?
Well Duh! It endangers their griftgraft by proxy cash cows too!~
Honestly not a bad idea. Maybe after he gets reelected and serves 4 more years, switch to independent and run again!
I suspect many of the Senators, both GOP and Dem. have sons, daughters or relatives in similar positions to Hunter Biden. They don’t want to “Lift that Rock” for fear exposing their own issues.
You're not the one on trial AH.
I suspect that they’re afraid that if Hunter goes down, a lot of them will go down too.
Waiting for you to publish the results of your experiment.
