Republican Daniel Cameron made history Tuesday with his victory over former Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo, becoming the first African-American to be elected the state's attorney general -- and offering a silver lining to the GOP amid drama over the state's gubernatorial race.
Further, Cameron will be the first Republican attorney general in the state in more than 70 years, a significant achievement as GOP Gov. Matt Bevin trails Democrat Andy Beshear in a tight race in which Bevin has not conceded but Democrats have declared victory.
The Trump campaign highlighted Camerons win, however, even as it appeared to write off Bevin's chances of prevailing.

I saw the guy at Trump’s rally and he is impressive, or in the words of sleepy joe, “He is really clean and articulate”.
He is the future. America First and conservative.
He got more votes than the Govs. Brilliant voters...
All the GOP state wide candidates got around 100,000 more votes then the Bevin. Bevins was deeply unpopular in KY. No surprise he lost.
Real story from last night is the red states got redder and the blue states bluer except for this 1 race in KY
A lot of lipstick on a pig. The incumbent governor loses to a socialist and creates gigantic gridlock. Not unhappy with solid down ballot showings, but it was not a winning night for Ky. This guy they elected is very bad news.
Taking a page from the DemonRAT play book the Kentucky GOP should start working on faux impeaching their next governor now. Be open and satirical about just to have fun.
BTTT
What’s his future? Successor to the Turtle? If he croaks the Socialist appoints his successor.
Still lingering out there is the suit pertaining to his eligibility. The appeal went straight to the Kentucky Supreme Court which hasn’t made up its mind about hearing it. Now that Beshear was elected and his butt boy Stumbo faltered, it wouldn’t surprise me if the supreme court here tosses out Cameron so that Beshear’s butt boy Stumbo can be declared the winner of the AG race. Gov really needs the AG to be in his pocket.
Actually, overall, the Kentucky did in fact get redder, though losing the “big one” is no small issue as far as direction of policy. The Secretary of State race being won indicates the electorate was massively pro-Republican - otherwise we would have come no where near to winning that race - the Dem SOS candidate got swept away in the red tide - she was a very popular well known public figure - former Miss America Heather French Henry who has still been in the public eye working on veteran’s issues since winning that title. Michael Adams defeating her by a considerable margin is an indication of how pro-Republican those who turned out were...a testament to how badly Bevin cooked his own goose.
As recently as 1999, Republicans would not even bother running on the down ticket races. In 1999 Dems ran unopposed for all offices except a token candidate for governor which got 22% of the vote if I’m remembering correctly, and there was a Republican candidate for Railroad Commissioner that also came no where close to winning (that office has since been abolished as an elected position and rolled over into the transportation department). All of the other Democrats won by default with no opposition. We have not swept the down ballot in 70 years - coinciding with the last time there was a Republican Attorney General.
Beshear and Stumbo actually come from rival camps of the Democrat Party so that may not happen. Stumbo would be more aligned with the Lundergan wing of the party.
